I can't wait for this movie. According to imdb.com the only reason Jackson signed up, was because the title was Snakes on a Plane. Dig it.

What ever your poison is.
And I totally get your point HRW, I just didn't want people I fell into the brainless category. I feel you on the whole not liking sports but liking the humanities, and the weird looks it gets you. Try telling people that some of your favorite readings were The Symposium and the Phaedo by Plato.
As for the free will topic, that is always a great debate/conversation. |

Posted - 03/22/2006 : 1:45:00 PM I see what your saying Ben, the problem is, people are no longer turning their brains on. No one seems to care about anything of substance anymore.
Example: My girlfriend is from Western Pennsylvania, and when I tell those guys out there I dont like/watch sports, they think I am a 'fag'. Try to talk to them about, oh, philosopy or literature...forget it. Then I get touted as some sort of informational elitist. This really pisses me off. Sorry I use cognitive abilites to try and deduce some sort of reasonablly original thought processes. The question of true free will, that is fascinating. Watching some schumck play with a ball is neither interesting or thought-provoking. Not to say we have be on intellectual guard at all times, but look where all the money is...sports, horrible TV (save a SMALL amount of programming), big budget mindless films, etc. You can see the problem I have with this...
I am not attacking you, I know you are an educated guy and a musician, a man of substance. However, free thinking has become a lost art; and it is this kind of trash that steals the creatvity and mindfullness of everyone who buys into it.
Snakes on a Plane, man? C'mon. |

Posted - 03/22/2006 : 12:17:06 PM Oh, it's camp, pure and simple. I'm definitely not expecting an art house film here, I want to see Samuel L. Jackson fighting snakes on a plane. At the end of the day, I still enjoy watching films like The Weatherman, Syriana, Northfork, etc, etc. But why can't we just watch something to turn our brains off and enjoy, for just an hour and a half? |

Posted - 03/22/2006 : 11:06:09 AM They are spending millions of dollars on this garbage more and more every fucking year, this is mindless bullshit brought to you by those who have brought you nothing but mindless bullshit over the last decade. The plot of this movie is fucking lamentable rubbish, and the only reason Jackson signed up is so his washed up ass can make a quick buck on the lack of imagination of the American public.
Check out: Rivers and Tides, or How to Draw a Bunny on DVD: stories about true creativity and connections to people and planet. And not wasted multi-millions in the process.
