Posted - 11/20/2001 : 12:31:52 AM On abunch of shows where tim plays w/ dmb he does this realy high pitches sound... it doesnt even sound like a guitar. For and example u can check the new chicaco cd.... on the last stop he does it somewhere... and also mainly on dont drink the water ... at 2:02 for example. That high pitches sound... what the hell is he doing there... maybe only fluff can answer this by askin the mad man himself. but i gots to know.

Posted - 01/06/2002 : 03:39:52 AM wrong song yo... and in water its a different sound he makes... kinda the same but its more of an electronic wavey sound in ddtw.
i've been messing round with a buch of my pedals and setup and u can kinda get the same sound if u hook up two wah pedals, activate both, both way high then lower one... but ehh... what ever.

Posted - 11/22/2001 : 11:04:04 PM Im not actually a canadain... i just always say aboot for fun... anyway... aboot the dd-5 theory i had... i came back to my rents house this weekend and jamed a bit w/ my bro (dick mountjoy) and i am 90% sure that tim is using the dd-5 for that high pitched sound thingy... cuz u can slow it down that way too... its kewl if u just do a D for that song and slow/speed it up/down... its nifty

Posted - 11/21/2001 : 01:41:54 AM I dont have anything setup right now so i cant check what Saint Jude is saying, but just for your info a whammy wah is NOTHING like a simple wah pedal, if u listen to the solo acoustic Kent State Folk Festival its what he is using to get that awesome snake charmer sound

Posted - 11/20/2001 : 10:24:17 PM I just tried messing with some stuff... i think... that perhaps he played a d on the high e... 2 frets before the octave ... had his dd-5 on reverse mode w/ feedback way up and d. time all the way to the right...(turns it down... cuz he doesnt play for a while before that on the song) turns it on at 2:02 and sped up (with d. time all the way to the left) ...he then gradually slows it down... if you understand what i mean. I think that might be what he is doing... that would explain that odd sound to it.

Posted - 11/20/2001 : 9:42:16 PM O yeah... it could be that i supose. . . but for some reason i still dont think that is it. because it sounds like he turns something on instead of hitting the string... is supose he could turn his vol. pedal down the turn it up after he hits it.... but i just dont know.

Posted - 11/20/2001 : 6:55:57 PM I think I saw Tim do this on Storytellers but another way to hit some higher notes is to use a slide. If you put it on your pinky while you're playing you can side it up to the higher notes on the high E string and even push it up across the soundhole to get some insanely high pitches you obviously wouldn't normally be able to get. Give it a shot...it's fun stuff to play around with regardless.

Posted - 11/20/2001 : 6:09:29 PM i dont know man... i dont think a simple wah could do that. It sounds like a high pitched frequency ... and sounds like he turns it up or somthing... i have no clue. but i dont think the wah could do that... could it?
