Yah, he definitely rips...maybe if he starts listening to Tim... that bass player looks fucking flabergasted.

Off to do an acoustic guitar rendition of Sultans of Swing...yes, I am fucking stupid.

the speed he has now shows that he has relatively innate physical skill on the instrument. things like dexterity and being able to sync up both hands at a fast speed. if he learns how to be musical, he'll be unstoppable as a musician. he'll have everything. technical ability, expression, interpretation. the trap is that he might just get used to everyone being wow'd by speed and not seek the deeper truths of the force. . .i mean not seek to improve other areas of musicianship.

I don't care how old the guy is. I can't do that stuff so I still find it crazy that anyone plays that fast, but I mean it's a leatned skill. If I sat around all day playing speed patterns I would get there, but I don't because I'm concentrating on other things like musicality. I've seen plenty of young kids in the gutiar center ripping and it doesn't do anything, but kind of get on my nerves after they play the same thing for 30 minutes. What I'm saying is it's cool, but I mean the kid I would bet probably can't even read or explain fundamental theory, but he can play fast. I knew kids that were ripping when they were like 14 and now that they're 22 they can still rip, but they are still fundamentally unsound as players. Anyone who spends a year or two working on that stuff constantly can do that so age doesn't impress me even though 8 is still pretty young.

the boy has raw talent. of course, 10 years from now if he's still doing that, he won't be any good. it's remarkable from an 8 year old. it's silly from anyone else.

even if he's playng memorized patterns, he's 8 man, most 8 year olds don't have any attention span. that's definetly an innate ability. either that or his parents totally force him into playing for 12 ours a day. when i was 8, i was playing with tonka trucks. wish i could flash forward to 15 yrs and see if he does anything with it.
Zachmozach Posted - 05/27/2005 : 9:45:37 PM
Only people who can shred on bop or some sort of complex tunes of that sort really impress me anymore because otherwise it's pretty much memorized fast patterns that don't really have much to say. This kid should listen to charlie parker for a while or coltrane and if he can do that stuff I'd call him Jesus then.

If he were into jazz, he'd be a little Frank Vignola junior.

By the way, welcome to the boards, bud. Not many people from Canada around these parts, so you're a rare breed.
