it's that time of year. e3. videogame footage, news, and revelations abound. this normally is my favorite time of the year.

nintendo decided that they're not going to reveal all, or any, of the killer games they promised us at e3 like all the other systems are doing. all we've heard from them so far is some bullshit about a hello kitty game, and rereleases of games from decades ago. in fact, they're not even going to talk about their new system, either, aside from the fact that it will have a dvd player in it. which is good, i guess. except i have a dvd player and so does everyone else who had a gamecube, since the gamecube didn't have it. it's also known that the new nintendo system, "revolution" will be backwards compatible. so you can those 7 good games on the revolution if you want, which shows you just how much shit nintendo has on the shelf. god knows they'll need those gc games, because they won't put out anything good for revolution for another year and a half. if you feel a stabbing pain in your ass, that's just nintendo reminding you that it's only illegal to rape people if you're not a multinational corporation. also, they've decided that the best fighter game, soul calibur, was simply too good to have on any of their systems. so they passed up the chance to have it on their next-generation system, because, as the president of nintendo said "not to slap you in the face with my dick or anything, but. . . .wham!"

let's talk about soul calibur 3 for a minute. i've talked about sc2 here before, i think. take all the things i said about it. the makers of soul calibur decided that, instead of maybe showing a little restraint and sort of reigning in their total fucking madness just a bit, they're going to go all out make sure that they take everything to the extreme. for starters, they've managed, somehow, to make voldo look creepier. my hat is off. that must have been a real challenge. it's as if they were brought to a landfill and were told "make this look less delicious." also, all the female characters have even less clothes on than before. i've stumbled upon a relationship here. it would seem that the number of soul calibur games is inversely proporational to the amount of clothes the female characters wear. the problem here is that the capability of this system is allowing for making the characters look more real, almost to the point where they are legitimately good looking. and i am not ready to handle that in the least. mitsurugi now has bigger, bulkier arm guards, because we all know he wasn't huge and hulking enough last time. raphael still looks as gay as ever, and i can only assume that he's going to act even gayer. and, as what can probably be called a personal slight to me, one or two of these characters look hauntingly like people i know. it is the very depths of bizzare. they haven't mentioned sophitia by name as a returning character, and i can only hope they've done away with her. i refuse to play as or against her because a lot of her moves involve her straddling her opponent's face, and that's just too much even bear.

the xbox 360 will be having the sequel to my favorite first person shoot, perfect dark, exclusively for their console. and if any of you xbox loving dogs are reading this, i hope you fucking choke on perfect dark zero. it should have been mine. it's not your's save by unhappy chance. that and nintendo selling rareware in their madness.

i had a great times with tales of symphonia. it took around 80 hours to beat and really it's the only realtime fantasy rpg i like. generally i prefer turn based combat.
Mechman293 Posted - 05/27/2005 : 7:15:40 PM
Super Smash Bros. just rocks so much, lol SSMB was the first game I got for my gamecube also. Thanks for the mini-review of Tales of Symphonia I'm going to rent it once school gets out.

Ahhh I gotta go play SSMB now ^^
dan p. Posted - 05/27/2005 : 3:21:03 PM
they are making a smash bros for the revolution, and you are right. smash brothers is fucking unbelievable.
Ultra Kimchi Posted - 05/27/2005 : 2:03:25 PM
SMASH BROTHERS is the BEST GAME OF ALL TIME. Seriously, I can't think of anything more fun than 4 people beating the crap out of each other all at the same time with classic timeless nintendo characters.

There are over 20 characters all with unique moves, powers--there are over 20 stages with their own hazards/music/character. It's an excellent party game that can suck your life away for hours as you team up with friends, say ridiculous things to one another and just have revel in your own juvenille stupidity

I hope they make another Smash brothers for the nintendo revolution...I would buy the system just for that, as I bought the gamecube just to play smashbrothers.

i would recommend for gamecube tales of symphonia. it's a realtime rpg. it's got a great story and it's just over all real fun. the combat gets sort of repeative after a while, especially when you're looking for items to build a certain custom weapon, or if you're just trying to level up. the combat is also kind of hectic, which i like. 4 people in your party at a time.

Unfortunately no.
Silky The Pimp Posted - 05/26/2005 : 11:50:46 PM
Unfortunately I don't have a PS 1 or 2... did it ever come out for anything else?
pcbTIM Posted - 05/26/2005 : 11:30:07 PM
If you like more strategic games, I would recommend Final Fantasy Tactics. Older game (for Playstation) but it has a great replay value. Like FF5, it has the job class system but much more updated.

It's 7 years old, and I still love playing it.

Wind Waker was definitely a bit on the easy side... but I loved it anyway. What other games might some of you more hardcore gamers recommend given that Ocarina of Time is probably my all time favorite?
dan p. Posted - 05/26/2005 : 10:07:14 PM
wind waker (i almost typed "wang waker" by accident because i'm a fucking idiot) was a a little too easy for my taste. the only really clever thing they did was putting constellations of the instruments the sages use over the islands where they are. i was looking for that leaf with the fiddle (before i knew who he was) and i saw the constellations purely on accident and was like "oh snap. i figured it out." ocarina of time was the best videogames i've ever played. i started seriously gaming when i was around 7, and no game springs to mind that's any better than oot.

The new Zelda game looks great... Ocarina of Time and Windwaker are two of my favorite games. I'm slowly but surely trying to find time to get through Metroid Prime 2... uber fun.

I cannot WAIT until StarCraft: Ghost arrives! I love StarCraft & Brood War, although I am probably the worst player out there... it was awesome to see the promo videos, the one with the hydralisk chasing you down the hallway looked frickin' sweet.

And Twighlight Princess looks specatular, finally a Zelda game where the enemies don't look like cartoons!
Mechman293 Posted - 05/24/2005 : 6:51:28 PM
hopefully where not jinxing it ><
dan p. Posted - 05/24/2005 : 2:08:21 PM
i know. i just got all the gameplay videos at gamespot. it looks awesome, although the shape shifting into a wolf has potential to be stupid.

That's true, but the english voice actors are terrible. At least in Japanese, the characters sound natural.

But anyways, I saw a trailor for Killzone 2 on the PS3 yesterday and, wow, the graphics are insane. I still don't know if what I was watching was cinema or actual gameplay. If it was gameplay, I might have to shit myself.
pants_happy Posted - 05/18/2005 : 11:26:07 PM
i think they just redid the starting cgi (to show off graphics). but like many, i'm hoping for more. my question is: are they really that out of ideas for a damn demo, or are they spilling the beans on what's to come?
Mechman293 Posted - 05/18/2005 : 4:53:49 PM
lol yeah the PS3 does kinda look like a printer.
can't wait to see some gameplay pics of FFVII
pants_happy Posted - 05/18/2005 : 02:02:42 AM
here's a link to the tech demo (click on stream for free):

pants_happy Posted - 05/18/2005 : 01:19:17 AM
i really like the look of the new zelda, probably because it reminds me so much of OOT. but who in the hell is that cat?

is it just me, or does the ps3 look like a printer?
http://ps2.gamespy.com/articles/614/614972p1.html

and read this article about the tech demo using ff7. if only it were true. then again, final fantasy has become the same old tune sung a different way every time, so why not? personally, i would rather they redid # 6, as that was a breakthrough every bit as much as 7 (maybe not fanbase widening-wise). just to complete this stream of consciousness, i'm playing 6 again right now, and it is still my favourite videogame. period. (with 4 & 7 as very close contenders.)

haha, that's funny. I don't think I've ever seen graphics that good I'd want to do that...but let me go check it out, I might just give myself a black eye
dan p. Posted - 05/17/2005 : 4:52:55 PM
e3 is nintendo, sony and microsoft trying to get everyone's attention with new games and systems while everyone struggles to assimilate the influx of information and promises.

if any of you are interested in zelda, then head on down to gamespot, where they just got the e3 trailer for the new zelda. which now has a name: "twilight princess." the trailer and screens look so good i want to punch myself in the face.
anthony1832 Posted - 05/15/2005 : 11:26:14 PM
talkingneurons, I laughed for about 5 minutes when i saw that hitler thing, thanks for a good laugh. Oh and about this E3 thing, not a big console game player, and not even completely sure what E3 is all about, so forgive me if i sound dumb. Was Blizzard Entertainment there, and if so did they release any info on any upcoming games, cause that Starcraft:Ghost game looks shitacular, was hoping for something better soon from them.

i use raphael a lot, too. he's one of my favorites. but his taunts and yells and a lot of his movements seem to imply an alternate lifestyle.
