Posted - 03/11/2005 : 11:22:54 PM natalie portman i think was supposed to act austre and disconnected. i think that's what her character is like. i make no excuses for jar-jar. what a bad decision. anakin is only good at acting pissed off, and i believe he spends most of ep. 3 pissed off. compare his acting just priot to and during slaughter of the tuskan raiders to the fireplace scene with padme
i also think that everyone looks neater and cleaner in the prequels because the the republic is still, for the most part, standing. tatooine, not being part of the republic, has that gritty look. the time of the prequels, some 40 years prior to the original, is, as obi wan puts it ". . .a more civilized age." i think the tidiness of it illustrates the differences in the galaxy's state well. also, boba fett's suit and slave 1 look beat because jango took quite a beating in it. |

Posted - 03/11/2005 : 10:09:22 PM I think a big reason Eps. I & II sucked so bad was that they were aimed at kids. Jar-Jar wasn't funny unless you were 4 years old. Both Anakin's acting sucked. Ms. Portman didn't do a very good job either, especially in Clones. Another thing I've noticed is the original films seemed more real-looking... the latest 2 all look like they were done on a set. A very CLEAN set. Rarely do you see a speck of dirt, dust, wear or tear anywhere (except of course for the sand on Tatooine...). Jango fett looks like he just came out of his plastic wrapper! Too many special effects can ruin a movie, too.
OK I'm done. |

the thing that makes eps. 1 and 2 so bad (i thought 2 was ok, though) is that they're not really needed. in 1 all there need to be was the finding of the boy and the introduction of the sith. in 2 anakin and padme needed to be a couple, the clone army needed to be introduced, and to a lesser extent dooku needed to make an appearence. this could have been done, albeit poorly, through flashback and exposition in dialouge in one 3 hour movie. really ep. 3 is the one that matters most. the other two are background. it's the fall of anakin to the darkside. i think that, if nothing else, it'll give us a keener insight into the original trilogy's darth vader.
i get decent spoilers if anyone's interested. probably not. it's no lotr, that's for sure. many bothans died to bring you this post.
I'd be interested. |

Posted - 03/11/2005 : 2:41:42 PM I hate Constantine. I hate Keanu Reeves. I hate when shitty actors pick shitty movies with shitty plot-lines.
What if I told you that God and the Devil made a pact... That the world will not burn up in Hell's flames just as long as the Devil gets to let Keanu Reeves pump out cimenatic dog-shit every year or two. Oh, and the Devil also gets to ruin the Matrix completely. |

Posted - 03/11/2005 : 09:05:08 AM Funny...all I remember people saying about Phantom Menace is how much it sucked. Jar Jar and all that... But that Episode II would be great.
And all I remember about Episode II is people saying "Oh, Episode III is going to kick ass!!"
So that sums it up, the movies themselves suck, but the hope that the next one will be even better keeps people interested.
Just wait, when III comes out, people will be saying "Oh man, when is Lucas making Episodes VII VIII and IX??? I can't wait!!" |

Posted - 03/11/2005 : 12:48:38 AM Flash back if you will to the spring of 1999. Nerd were lining up everywhere to get tickets to the opening day showings of "The Phantom Menace". The very Arthen you've come to know and love, was among them. He was fourteen years old and excited. Come the day of the showing, he waited patiently in line for two hours, just to get into the theaters, once in he sat nervously in his seat with his two best friends, and almost wept tears of joy when the familiar theme kicked in and those yellow words scrolled up the screen.
Two hours later he was the broken, bitter shell of a man. It was a horrible film, and he had become completely disillusioned.
Spring 2002 rolls around, and our main character finds himself in his senior year of college, graduating in a few short weeks. "Attack of the Clones" comes out, and he doesn't wait in line this time, he waits and goes to see it after two weeks. He isn't as crushed as he was after "The Phantom Menace" but it was still not on the level of the original three.
And now, my friends, we come to spring 2005. I am now twenty years old and a junior in college. In a few weeks "Revenge of the Sith" will be coming out, and I couldn't care less. I'll probably wait until rental, but the one consolation I have is that it won't be worse than "Phantom Menace" and it will probably be better than "Attack of the Clones."
Kind of pointless, but still, it felt good writing it. |

Posted - 03/10/2005 : 11:08:56 PM I watched it on IMDB.com. Is there a longer one they are showing on TV now? My parents went to see the Incredibles a while back and my mom told me that there was a trailer for Ep III during that. But I had her watch the one on IMDB and she said it was the same trailer.
I'm such a geek. |
