Posted - 02/11/2005 : 9:53:32 PM Hey guys...there's this killer band from the Providence, RI area. They take jazz, funk, pop, and soul, throw it in a blender with some old-fashioned folk inspired songwriting...I saw them in NY a couple weeks ago...amazing!!! Check out some clips: http://www.campfireorchestra.com/Media/ghost/Past_Tense.mp3 http://www.campfireorchestra.com/Media/ghost/Ocean_Floor.mp3 http://www.campfireorchestra.com/Media/ghost/Route.mp3 If you like what you hear visit their website www.campfireorchestra.com Feel free to share your thoughts on the clips here. |

Posted - 02/22/2005 : 9:25:42 PM I thought I'd hijack this thread right quick and ask if you guys...or gals, have ever heard of Francois Larouche? I found some stuff of his floating around this great web of ours, but couldn't find much about the guy unfortunately, anybody ever heard any of his music? or heard of him? thoughts? suggestions? doughnuts? |

Posted - 02/15/2005 : 09:10:09 AM That's cool man...I didn't ask you to buy it or anything, just wanted you to check it out...as for the funk and jazz...you have to see them live to reallt hear those influences...they also get lost in the shortened clips...hopefully the band releases some full-length stuff on their site. But thanks for listening anyway... |

Posted - 02/13/2005 : 1:19:21 PM Ya I was really surprised when I found out this was not someone just coming here to spam the boards. As for the music though it's definitely not my bag. I didn't here the jazz and funk in their writing either. I just heard some ill concieved muiscal scheme. |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 10:19:04 PM i always, always take music on it's own merit. i try, and strike i think not too far off the mark, to not let things like fanbase, lyrics, or any other non-musical element slant my judgement on music. if i hadn't thought it was spam, then chances are i would have said the same things. maybe i wouldn't have cussed as much.
i'd have to agree that individuality is part of what makes music great. that's what i said what i said about this band sounding like it rips off oar. it seems to lack any musical ambition other than sounding like oar. of course, we all have our influences and certainly they are reflected in our writing. it's unavoidable. but i've always been of a mind that if you're going to try cop another band's sound, than you have to do it better than the other band. that's how music progresses and evolves. and that's where so many bands and players fail. |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 8:06:58 PM Nah...it really didn't take that much thought...just trying to find a username that no one else had...and Dan...we're all entitled to our opinions man...I just hope you didn't listen with biased ears b/c of the "triple-post-spam" But individuality is what makes music great, otherwise we'd all be listening to the same old crap which would make for a pretty boring music scene...peace |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 7:54:49 PM i guess i didn't really think it took so much thought to come up with "mzk" as an alternative spelling for "music." |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 5:02:33 PM not to defend the man, but do you think he would've put so much thought in a creative way to spell music if he wasn't going to stick around? and, I hate to agree with Dan, but I do agree with Dan, utter crap. |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 4:21:47 PM ah. see, i didn't know you had intended to start posting here. it looked like you were just going to spam the band and leave without contributing to the boards at all. we get that a lot here. this is really the first time anyone's done that with the intent to stay. your post was identical to so many other band spam posts, we all just assumed. anyway, welcome aboards, and i hope you enjoyed your baptism by fire. i still think all those things about the band, though. |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 11:08:49 AM Apology accepted, at least by me!
I hear ya on the message board thing. I never posted on boards until I met some of the board members at a Tim Concert in Trenton a number of years ago.
I for one (and I think most of the people here) am always up to hear new music.
Since your screen name is "music fan" with a twist, I figured you probably were really into music, just not up on board etiquette. No biggie.
Please stick around. I have a feeling you have a lot to offer here and you will gain a lot as well.
I checked them out and I really like the sound. Thanks for sharing! |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 10:08:37 AM I saw Tim with Dave Matthews at URI a little while back, he truly is an amazing musician...as far as posting messages, I usually read some of the posts but never really got into the whole message board thing. Again, my bad, just wanted to let you guys know about a local band that's doing some pretty cool stuff...I apologize if anyone was offended. |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 10:03:19 AM Hey Mzkfan, You can remove the others, as long as no one posts on them. Just click on the one you want to remove and look at the icons , there will be one of a trashcan. Click on it, follow the directions and Voila, you delete the whole thing.
The hostility isn't because of your triple post, although that probably added to it, but rather that people are here because of Tim. Introducing new music is welcomed and very cool, however not as a first post. Leaves us wondering if you even know who Tim Reynolds is.
The people here are some of the best in the world, IMO, you just started out the way so many do, coming here only to spam (or so it seems) without any understanding of what this board is about.
If you aren't a TR (Tim Reynolds) fan then may I suggest you visit the other forums here and try listening to a man who is one hell of an amazing musician!
If you are a TR fan, my apologies, but you should have mentioned that first. |

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 09:09:49 AM WOW...the hostility...for the record, I didn't intend to spam the board, the damn thing gave me an error message each time I posted, thus I assumed it didn't post. I tried to delete the other 2 but apparently you can't do that. As for the band, you're all entitled to your opinions but don't bash the band b/c I screwed up the posting "policies"

Posted - 02/12/2005 : 01:29:23 AM whos honestly joins a board just to post about a band they 'heard' and loved? Does this fool people?
Your assumption that everyone is as dumb as you was a bad one
There exists such a thing as negative marketing too, where you piss off consumer's enough they make mental notes to avoid your crap at all costs
A lot like the mental note i just made right.....now |

Posted - 02/11/2005 : 11:45:26 PM stop watching beetle juice. saying something three times doesn't make us do anything, it doesn't make your spam anymore important.
by the way. this band? it's fucking awful. in all honesty, it's a joke. it sounds like you wrote all of these songs on the toliet 10 minutes before the gig. if i had to pick a band bad enough to use spam to get a fan base going, this would be it. this is the musical equivelant of spam. everything is wrong with it. the guitar work is senseless and boring. the horns sound like you have 5th graders playing them (at around their level, too.) the vocals pretty much deal out wholesale suffering like a sweeping fucking plauge. listen. if you want to rip off shitty bands like oar, which is more or less all you're doing here, then that's your own bad taste. but don't drag us into it. i can't believe you posts this musical apefuck 3 TIMES. how sad. how relentlessly sad. spend less time pissing people off and more time trying to be better at anything at all. that's it. i'm done. |
