Posted - 02/03/2005 : 9:36:58 PM Hey everybody Last night I played my show at the grape street pub in Philadelphia... and guess who showed up...!
FLUFFY!!!!
He took a bunch of pictures of the show and we had a grand ol' time in the city of brotherly love.
I felt so honored because Fluffy made a big effort to get from NYC to Philly and hung around for a long time to sit and chill with me. What a great guy. As soon as I saw him in the room, I nearly lost my composure. I stumbled on my words as I tried to tell the audience how awesome this guy is. I was just floored.
anyway, some of the pictures can be viewed by going to my website, www.mattwinn.com
going to the pictures page, and clicking on the self-evident link

Posted - 02/11/2005 : 01:36:47 AM I like the name "Asymptotic Anecdote." It's also a really good song. I'm listening to it right now. |

Posted - 02/04/2005 : 4:27:53 PM And a great show was had by ALL!! Including Matt's parents who I got to meet briefly. Nice folks!! It was great performance by Matt and recommend anyone who has the chance to check it out, DO SO. His style of playing, although visually it reminded me of Kaki King, did not sound much like Kaki to me, even though it consisted of very similar style(in appearance). I did manage to procure the setlist for myself after fighting off a throng of fans, many black eyes and bruises and much name calling, but I won't go into that now. Here is the setlist:
1)Time Travel(12)# 2)Asymptotic Anecdote* 3)Dipole Moments 4)Drifting 5)Ditched 6)Icicles* 7)Four Reasons 8)Clemmons(12)# [actually played last after the next 2 songs] extra Step Aside [played 8th] Biker Girl [played 9th followed by the aforementioned Clemmons)
Much like TR he seemed to feel a need to rearrange his set during the show. ARTISTS!!!! LOL Although, unlike TR, he was able to remember the changes made and correct the setlist for me after the show. LOL
[NOTED at the bottom of the setlist:] GSP 2-2-05 Guitar-(dl4)-br8-tuner-DIbox-PA
He does have a CD with all of these songs on it. I highly advise getting a copy and checking it out. It is available at his shows, beyond that you will have to ask Matt where else you can procure a copy of his CD.
I dropped off my friend at work in Soho in NYC at exactly 6:30pm and fought my way to Philly in exactly 2 hours and arrived during Matt's first song. I slipped in quietly hoping not to disturb, but as I started taking pics, the woman next to me eventually, between songs, asked me if I was a friend of Matt's. I said I was and introduced myself as Fluffy. She asked if I knew him from school and I quietly explained that I knew him thru TR at which point the distraction caught Matt's attention and my presence was discovered. I felt kinda bad as it seemed to break his concentration for the moment but as he kicked back into playing it didn't seem to affect him one iota. It was beautiful set and I was quite impressed and that's not EZ these days. LOL (I am so fucking jaded.) I quickly moved across the room to a better vantage point for pics and enjoyed the rest of the set as did the rest of the audience given the overwhelming response he recieved. The only hecklers he really had to endure were his parents. LOL I am told it was their first Matt Winn show. His dad kept yelling out a song title(some animal name or something, I don't remember exactly. OBVIOUSLY) and I equated this to Matt's own version of people heckling TR for "STREAM". LOL So what's the history Matt? Do you feel about that song the way TR feels about Stream? For the record, he did not play it, only made snide comments to his father like TR does about Stream. LOL All in all I had a great TIMe and was glad I made the trip. I saw a GREAT show, acquired the setlist(with corrections) and the ultra-RARE show poster with the misspelling used by Matt onstage for website advertisement. HEHE
As with most of my stories, there is DRAMA, usually brought on by weather or the elements. Tonite was no different, the drama on this occasion came after the show in the form of a snow 3 foot snow bank I parked next too. I returned to my what I thought was a LUCKY parking place right in front of the venue since I was running late and found that in my haste to park I had allowed the passenger side of my car to slide into the snow bank wedging both my right front and back right tires in this massive mound. The short version is, after using a board acquired from the sidewalk in front of a shop, I managed to dig and work my car out of it's precarious parking place after 45 MINUTES of being stuck. Special thanx to "the city of brotherly love", of the 100 or so people who walked by me not one person offered to help push me out. With 1 person to push, I could have easily been out in under 5 minutes. By myself, it took considerably longer. Maybe Philly ought to think about changing their slogan. LOL
And Matt, you will be happy to hear, as I was, that I did not have to serve on a jury when I returned to DC. YIPPEE FUCKING YEAH!!!!!
