Posted - 01/05/2005 : 5:49:38 PM So Sunday night I realize that I can't get online. I have a constant connection with cable, and my modem's power light was just blinking on and off. After 3 calls to the cable company, the soonest anyone can come out is the 11th!!!!!
One of the reps I talked to, who was very pleasant and helpful, which is rare with MediaCom, suggested that the cable running to my room with the comp in it may be bad. This morning I went all out, testing the modem by connecting it to every cable outlet in my place, and NONE of them worked. My cable TV works fine, from EVERY outlet in the house.
I guess I wait until the 11th to find out what's wrong, unless anyone has some suggestions as to what the trouble could be. I'm wondering if the modem might just be broken.

Posted - 01/05/2005 : 8:53:12 PM Same exact thing is going on with me that you're talking about erich. The guy came out last week or so and replaced the splitter outside, and said that would fix the problem. Not so. If I download something for very long, the signal almost always gets dropped. I think it's a setting they have to break connections so people won't run servers or something on their computers.
So my cable is intermittent, at best. :( |

Posted - 01/05/2005 : 7:48:24 PM Im with time warner (RoadRunner) cable, and I had the exact problem you did for a long time. there would be times when I just wouldnt get a signal at all, and the light would just fucking blink. I thought it was just the heavy cable flow of the neighborhood, so I just kept resetting the modem (unplug for 30 seconds, plug it in, let it try to lock in a signal). sometimes it worked, othertimes I just had to wait for a while.
Well, the last time it happened I got anoyed and called up the company, and when they tried to send me a signal they said the return signal was corrupt. So they sent someone over about 2 weeks later (like you), which just happened to be this past monday.
Apparently, all the splitters in my house were old, and half didnt accept video! The guy was surprised my grandmothers cable box worked and that i had a locked net signal at all. So he replaced the splitters, and then just in case replaced my 5 year old modem.
Could be the case with you, may not be, who knows. But cable companies suck the big hairy. |

Posted - 01/05/2005 : 6:06:31 PM No router. The fact that the modem didn't work when plugged in to ANY of my cable outlets tells me it is either the modem itself, or it is a problem with the internet service. But I would assume that if my internet was down, they would have known that when I called 4 times yesterday.

Posted - 01/05/2005 : 5:52:55 PM it just sounds like a modem problem to me. If you have a router, if could be that as well |
