is it just me, or do all of these titles make good band names. in flames beside my brain, jupiter's wounded soul, face off, touch of uncertainty. all great potential names for bands

actually, "in flames" is a band, and they suck.

haha I went to see GWAR about a month ago...I in the second row...It reminded me of the "splash section" when you go to sea world, except...that wasnt water

Yes. You'll blend in better if you leave it at home. If you're lucky they'll take your skin and turn it into a mask that they'll wear while playing.
pcbTIM Posted - 01/23/2005 : 04:38:59 AM
So I shouldn't wear my skin when I go to a Gwar concert?
Arthen Posted - 01/22/2005 : 8:39:41 PM
Just don't wear contacts because they'll be stained red for three days. Along with your skin.
dan p. Posted - 01/22/2005 : 4:32:46 PM
hahaha. fuckin gwar. awesome.
Arthen Posted - 01/22/2005 : 3:08:41 PM
Hey man! Gwar is one of the most talented bands out there! They shoot fake blood off the stage into the audience! That's real art!
dan p. Posted - 01/22/2005 : 2:08:26 PM
i can't believe he would post that and then just leave. what the fuck is that? come back here.
dan p. Posted - 01/16/2005 : 1:22:10 PM
uninitiated. haha. give me a break. i listen to a lot of hardcore and some grindcore, almost non stop, so don't give me vocals. that's real screaming, turning the voice from a melody to a rhythm instrument. there's craft in it. death metal bands give no thought to that. it's pig like grunting which is contrived and decidedly unemotional. i've listened to all of those bands you listed, and the only one that merits any credit is opeth. and they're all considered melodic or symphonic death metal/black metal. you want music that intricate and hard to play, go to bands like psyopus. they do that sort of thing right. death metal also gave birth to gore metal, which sucks even worse. cannibal corpse. give me a fucking break.

also, intricate and hard to play doesn't mean it's good.

Death Metal does not suck. It is an intricate, complex, emotional, deep, and incredibly difficult to play style of music. It has the unfortunate characteristic of being difficult for the uninitiated to listen to, mostly because of the style of vocals used. However to make a blanket statement like "death metal blows" and discrediting bands just because they are death metal is totally subjective, and lacking any evidence. Just listen to Morbid Angel, Death, Cynic, and, as you mentioned Opeth, and you might see what I'm talking about. You just have to have an open mind towards the vocals.

WOW You joined this board just to say that profound piece. Awesome.

i would name my band Hopeful Heresay if it wasnt already an amazing tim song, and i had thought of it.
dan p. Posted - 12/21/2004 : 9:10:41 PM
i just thought of a great one. well, i think it's great. everyone else i told either doesn't get it or thinks it's awful. "secondary dominace" or "(the) secondary dominants."

Imaginary Time would be a great name as well.
Fluffy Posted - 12/18/2004 : 3:26:03 PM
Ironically, Kev, that was the period when TR was most prolific with the whole band names thing. He still does it to this day, but in no longer consumes the conversations as it once did. Sometimes when he would come up with a kewl band name he would already have an album title for them as well as song names. We really had a great TIMe with it coming up with stuff for the imaginary bands. Member names, personalities, likes, dislikes, etc etc etc. Ahhh like children, the power of imagination!

If my memory serves me correctly, the Puke Matrix cd was originally going to be called Squirt the Frogs... which ended up being a title of a song on the cd. I think that disc has some of the best song names... "Breathing Space" "Big Butt Pie" but I agree... so many are great. Everything on "See Into Your Soul" rules as well.
dan p. Posted - 12/18/2004 : 12:18:05 PM
they still have all the faults that go with pretty much all death metal, classically influenced or otherwise, and i'm discrediting them for it. death metal blows. opeth, not counting "damnation" which doesn't count because it isn't death metal, is the closest thing to good death metal will ever be.
pcbTIM Posted - 12/18/2004 : 12:38:33 AM
I think Conga Masturbation would be a great band. They could "perform" at children's parties.

whoa, tiger. this is only partialy true. The Jester Race and Whoracle are brilliant classicaly influenced death metal albums, and Colony is exellent despite its faults (weakening singing, worse lyrics, etc.). Yes, all their albums since (Clayman, Reroute..., Soundtrack...) have sucked ass, but their older stuff is not to be discredited.

I do that too at times, my personal favourites being

So it would not surprise me if alot of those song titles were at one TIMe band names TR came up with. He still jots down kewl ones from TIMe to TIMe but not with the sheer volume he once did. I can remember some days where it seemed like he was writing them down all day long. I remember on some of the early road trips he would sit with that journal while we would all brainstorm on "kewl band names". TR has so many projects invisioned in his minds eye and name for every one of them!
