The only way they could make a decent film version, is to go back and spruce up the old film, and release the original back into theaters.

Ya the only way they could re-do this movie and make it watchable it seems to me is to animate it with pixar type animation and make it trippy as hell. Actually scare kids when stuff happens. Not that the original wasn't pretty scary when they get on that boat and they go into the tunnel. Didn't they show like a beheaded chicken or something?

I can easily think of a Tim Burton movie that isn't "dark". Planet of the Apes. What a pile of burning garbage.

I don't really care to see this movie. I grew up with the original and I can't think of anyone other than Gene Wilder playing Wonka.

Just realized it wasn't Tim Burton who said that; it was the guy who wrote the screenplay.

"John August, the screenwriter of BIG FISH, recently turned in his draft of Tim Burton's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and he revealed that he hadn't seen the '70s version, WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and when Burton asked him to do the screenplay for CHARLIE, he said, "Shouldn't I see the '70s film before I start?" Burton responded, "Definitely not!" He wanted August to write his version of the original book without the influence of WILLY WONKA.

So, August didn't see WILLY WONKA until he turned in his draft and said he was surprised because his script was considerably "Less Dark" than the '70s film. I guess it took him off guard because the novel is so dark as is Burton's sensibilities."

I'm there!

An interesting note, though. I read an article where Tim Burton said his version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory won't be as "dark" as the version with Gene Wilder. I don't think Willie Wonka was very dark (except maybe the tunnel scene); and I totally can't imagine Tim Burton *not* being dark. It would bum me out.
