Posted - 07/24/2004 : 2:06:11 PM I did kind of always want to see Tim break into a dissonant minor key version of a song like Crash Into Me, or Ants Marching, just to fuck with the people that are there thinking they're seeing a Dave Matthews cover act.

When did they start getting ignorant? Hehe. The first TIMe I ever saw Tim live, I had heard Stream for the first TIMe maybe 2 days before. I didn't even have TIMe to find other tracks/buy other albums yet. But the last thing that would have EVER crossed my mind at the show was that he'd be playing DMB songs.
The people in the world that just have no concept of respect are beyond me. I can completely see someone not being into Tim's vibe...some people are just born and bred for pop music...so be it. The sheer ignorance of people gets to me though. Nevermind, I just hate people, that sums it up . |

Posted - 07/23/2004 : 11:03:15 AM Well, I am from Iowa and I can tell you that most people here are jerks. I've met some really cool people, mostly musicians, but for the most part, in traffic, in stores, on the streets, people here suck. And it didn't help that Tim was at the Union Bar in Iowa City, a college town with a bunch of jackass college kids just at the bar anyway to get drunk. And in a college town like Iowa City, seeing "Tim Reynolds of the Dave Matthews Band" on a poster will definitely fill the place. But when Tim didn't break into Crash Into Me after two or three songs, people started to get rude.

I still find that hard to believe. I could be watching the worst performer I've ever seen in my life, having paid a reasonable amount of cash to see them and if it wasn't my thing, I'd just leave. Granted, people are idiots...but it just boggles my mind that people could be such assholes. |

It's like the fans bring down the credibility of the band.
it's not like that at all. what credibility? when did credibility enter the picture? credibility for what? how the music sounds is the first, last, and only thing that matters for a band. what the hell do the fans have to do with anything? don't like it? don't deal with them. it's that simple. |

Posted - 07/22/2004 : 11:43:55 AM Apparently I missed your response CPPJames, anyways:
I have heard Sleep to Dream Her, and it is a candidate for worst song, most definitely, and it actually takes second place. Sleep to Dream Her started off as a bad song, whereas Captain, started off as two great songs, then it was shattered into a bad song, that's why it is a bigger crime.
And I heard Sleep To Dream Her live last year, and I found it tolerably. It's not one that I hope they play, but they worked with it, and I thought it made huge jumps in quality.
As for Fred Durst, major ass-clown. |
Muskrat |
Posted - 07/22/2004 : 11:38:56 AM Ok, I know I came into this thread kinda late, but did someone actually say that Fred Durst could turn Dave Matthews Band into a decent band? *ahem* FRED.... DURST... as in from the band so intelligently named "limp bizkit"? Who writes lyrics with depth and meaning like "I'll take a chainsaw and skin your ass raw"? I could go on and on but if you're already deluded enough to like him it would be no use. |

Apparently you have never heard Sleep To Dream Her, lol. If I ever hear that song again, it will be too soon. If I knew they would play it tonight, I wouldn't go. Ok, that's a bit of a stretch...but I seriously hate that song. Tim was even forced to play it at least once that I've seen live (3/25/2003). I felt terribly for him. Alright, maybe I'm overstating my despise for that song...but I do, seriously hate it. I hate the good fortune to catch Captain one time live, before it was a porno background track.

Posted - 07/13/2004 : 3:10:55 PM BTCS is the only great album that they made, and it will be the last. As for newer songs off of Everday and Busted Stuff, I like most of them live, but I never listen to the studio albums. The Gorge set is great in the area because you get to hear a good number of those songs live and they are all really good. The one song that I will never listen to, is the new "Captain". When it was "Crazy" it was great, when it was the first "Captain" off of Lilywhite it was great, now it's a bullshit love song that makes me cringe. That is by far their worst song. |

Really? I've altogether abandoned nancies. Not only are the message boards a joke, but their content is so far behind. AntsMarching.org looks a million times better and the content is vastly superior. I'll never go to nancies.org again, lol.
So I used this opportunity to bitch and moan about nancies.org, so what?! |

The most disturbing thing about that thread, is the sheer amount of bitching about Stefan. I love DMB, I hate their fans. It's like the fans bring down the credibility of the band. Like when they bitch about setlists and certain songs.
And like I said before, DMB will never be as good as they were when they did BTCS.
This is very true. I'm a fan of theirs from way back in 1993 when they first released Remember Two Things, and I've gotten to watch the fanbase of the band deteriorate. Don't get me wrong, they have a huge fan base, but the quality of the fans has gone down the toilet. I can't stand the nancies boards, but it's one of the places I go to keep current on news with the band and such.
I agree with the comment about BTCS being the last really good album they did. I keep hoping that the next album will be a blast from the past and really get me into the band again. I've been hoping that for 2 or 3 studio albums now.... The live albums still rock in my opinion, if you skip past some of the songs from those latter albums.
They are still one of my favorite bands, but I'm not crazy about them like I was back in the 90's.

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 4:11:55 PM i'm pretty sure that the whole Dr. Dre thing came about because:
1. Stefan loves hip-hop, and 2. he mentioned earlier this year or last year that he'd love to bring some kind of hip-hop vibe into their music (or something like that. i'm pretty sure it was in some other interview).
he also mentioned (i think in that same interview) that, in the very early days, DMB used to have MOSH PITS.

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 2:08:44 PM Well, I have to admit...after hearing that Stefan found himself bored last year, I'm fearing a break-up or a "let's all go our separate ways for a few years". With Dave's voice showing signs of aging already, that would really, truly suck.
The quality of songs they've put out in the past while hasn't been up to par for their stuff, either (IMHO). Sugar Will is downright boring. Joyride is alright, but Crazy Easy and Hello Again are egh as far as I'm concerned.
They need some inspiration. |

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 09:13:38 AM Maybe DMB will start coopting black culture
1. They'll start stealing other people's old beats and just play over those
2. DMB tabs will all just be bass tabs ----------------------------- ------------------------------ ------------------------------ 2-2-2-2-3-3-3-3-5-5-5-5-0-0-0-0
3. Dave will no longer adlib, he'll freestyle
4. Bling, bling -> Nuff said
5. There will be a new clothing line out next fall " DMB Threadz" |

Posted - 07/12/2004 : 01:23:02 AM I would be interested in how that would sound. Its not like dre would rap over it, hes just producing it.
Rick Rubin has produced a hell of alot of great rock albums (Chili Peppers, Mars Volta, Audioslave), and he started as a rap producer. (bestie boys to begin with)
So i dont find it that scary. |
