Posted - 06/28/2004 : 6:14:09 PM Sorry folks, but this is a shameless, sappy plug for my dog.
My puppy Abby just got diagnosed with hip dysplasia. She's going to need surgery soon to fix it. I setup a web page where you find info and, if you'd like, send a donation via paypal.
Please send it around to anyone you feel would have sympathy for my cause.
Thanks,
Jason |

Does this have anything to do with you not saying Happy Birthday to me on my birthday post (asshole.... )?.... Damn not being able to convey the most sincere sarcasm via internet.
Oh, it's ok Sorrel. Actually, I do owe everyone an update. Abby used the money in her fund to take a trip to Ohio and get a bunch of tests done. She was a very active puppy, so it was a little too late for her to have the surgery. She's doing ok though, and thanks again to the board for all the generous donations. |

Posted - 06/30/2004 : 10:59:25 AM Good Luck Abby and Jason. I hope you raise all the money you need. It's alotta money but a dogs life is so worth it. especially if they can "fix" her.
When my dog was sick a few years ago and they thought he needed back surgery ($5000). There were no/low interest loans available for situations like this one thru the surgical vet. That was in VT, but it doesn't hurt to check it out. Or maybe a personal loan if they don't have a program like that in PA.
Keep us posted on how she's doing. The Task Force could always arrange some bake sales at the summer DMB shows for extra cash.

Posted - 06/29/2004 : 2:27:41 PM p.s. maybe you would earn more money if you had a drawing to win a date, like the women in need of bigger breasts.
ok, bad joke |

Posted - 06/29/2004 : 2:24:40 PM Awww Jason,
I am so sorry you and your family are going through with this. My 14-year-old puppy is not doing well and it breaks my heart. I am in the middle of a move right now so my addresses aren't corresponding with my credit cards or something screwy like that, but as soon as I have everything switched over, this will be one of the first things that I do, even if it's just a little :( And if I forget... then remind me!
Hope you are doing well otherwise, Sorrel |

I think it is totally awesome that you have done that for your dog. I know if my dog was sick I'd do everything to try to help her. And I like contributing to things like this where the results seem more tangible than giving to a super huge corporation-style charity, where you aren't sure where your money is going.
Thanks, I appreciate hearing that. This balances out some of the scathing comments I've gotten from people who think I'm trying to rip them off. It's not like I'm asking for all the money, just some would help. |

I want to contribute, but I don't use PayPal. Is there anyway I could do a straight credit card donation?
Nervermind, I re-read the payment thing. After the first, I'll be contributing! And by the way, that's a beautiful animal. I love dogs.
Thanks Arthen! |

Jason, I used to be a veterinary technician. We used to do a procedure called femoral head resection. Is that what Abby is having done? Around here in PA it costs about $1000 per side, I think. She is young to have this and if she has problems now, she really does need something done or she will be in horrible pain when she is older.
I can't contribute now as I am not currently working. (I work for a school now so I am off for the summer) Since you don't need the money for awhile, PLEASE make a note to email me or remind me come Sept and I will send you something to help.
This is why I can't stress enough about the responsibility of breeders. Dysplasia is a hereditary disorder. Almost always effects large breed dogs, especially german shepherds because they tried to angle the backs of them. There are very good reasons to breed purebred dogs, unfortuately many see it as a money making venture and breed crap. (breeders vrs. producers)
My husband and I showed dogs for years. One time we had a litter and some people came to see the puppies and I could tell right away what they were doing......adding it all up as they saw it, 10 pups X $500....easy $5,000. Nothing could have been further from the truth. It cost $500 for the stud fee, about $500 in vaccines (which I gave the pups myself because I was a vet. tech.), then there was advertising expenses, food for the puppies and added vet. care and food supplements for the bitch to ensure healthy puppies. Then there was the expenses of showing the dogs. They didn't get their championship for free. (BTW, I didn't sell to those people. Just because someone came to look at my puppies didn't mean they were going home with one.)
There were also times when things didn't go right. We had a bitch who was overdue. She wasn't as large as I thought she should be so we took her to the vet who x-rayed her. Here she had one VERY large pup. He did a C-section and we ended up losing the pup. So those people who saw all the easy money never saw the times we spent well over $1000 and got nothing. (not to mention the fact that our poor dog Riskie, short for Riskie Business, went bonkers losing the puppy. She kept looking for it and crying. Truly one of the saddest things I ever saw.)
Again,I am so sorry for you and for Abby. No pup should have to go through that!
I think the surgery is similiar to a femoral head resection. This is for my parents who live in PA, it's their dog. We got it for them for Christmas, and they found out about this a little bit ago. She is still young enough to have the surgery, so I figured I'd put up a page trying to raise some money to put towards it. You can find more info on the web page. |

Yeah, San Rafael/San Fran area, right? I'm in still in Jax FL, moving to Sacramento, CA in december with my job. I'll be out there in august looking for a place 2 live and soak in the scenery while getting blitzed at fisherman's wharf.
Oh..the places you'll go.
I hope all is well out there. Thanks again for the extended hospitality last year. Ya don't come across people like that too often nowadays.
