i like mraz...hes got an incredible voice and good lyrics..not the banal shit john mayer keeps spitting at us...god he sucks....but just my opinion
Arthen Posted - 04/27/2004 : 12:16:23 AM
Jason Mraz is an assclown. I hate him. But I'm not sure who I hate more: Jason Mraz or John Mayer?

dan p. Posted - 04/26/2004 : 11:50:56 PM
that depends on how much you care about music and how much you care about getting a lot of money. correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't tim reynolds turned down a lot of offers? and has he sold out? nope. he's doing whatever the hell he goddamn pleases and frankly, i'm fine with that.

your post implies that accepting money to write music is selling out. but supposing someone writes music they like, and as it happens, people are willing to spend money to hear it? beethoven found himself in that situation. would you sit here and tell us that beethoven sold out?
JoeGamo05 Posted - 04/26/2004 : 10:34:36 PM
lol what do you all think about jason mraz i think he's a lil conceded(sp?) lol i heard there is this guy i think he's on this site joegamo09 or something he's supposed to be sexy as hell and okay at guitar you guys should give him a listen... j/p everyone has soldout though if you think of it.. if someone took a gross amount of money and shoved it in ur face and told you to play something most ppl might.. whooooo knows
dan p. Posted - 04/25/2004 : 7:03:42 PM
so he's really good, but he just writes bad pop music for money. being talented doesn't give you permission to suck.

So you're calling him a sellout?

that, or he actually enjoys writting pop songs.

lemme ask you this. if he's good enough to play this really difficult song, why is it that he can't write like that? could it because he had to spend forever learning it and really isn't god enough to do it consitantly? i think so.

because the record label isnt paying him to write good songs, they're paying him to write pop songs.

then he's as good as terrible.

One more reason for John Mayer to take a swan dive off a thirty story buliding.

i don't see how what you listen to already has any bearing on if another band is good for you to listen to. unless you seek only to listen to one type of music.

yes, radiohead is good for everyone.
Arthen Posted - 04/14/2004 : 11:46:46 PM
Just because you like those bands or any other band doesn't mean you shouldn't give new things a try. It's impossible to guarantee whether or not you'll like it just because you like Phish, DMB, etc.

Just take a listen.
acfc70 Posted - 04/14/2004 : 9:01:54 PM
yo i'm a big dmb, phish and disco biscuits fan, is radiohead a good band for me to listen to?
dan p. Posted - 04/09/2004 : 10:54:18 AM
i can't really listen to them, even if they are a joke.
KevinLesko Posted - 04/09/2004 : 04:01:41 AM
LOL!! I love The Darkness. At first I hated that cd, when we got it in on promo.. but once I started taking it less seriously, and more as a joke, I really started to like them. They ae actually playing two shows in Hollywood that a bunch of my co-workers and I were going to try to attend based on the fact that it would be a guarenteed laugh-fest, but they actually both sold out immediately
dan p. Posted - 04/08/2004 : 10:35:16 PM
i read the rest of them, and aside from the tool one, he's dead on all the time. it's hilarious.
Fluffy Posted - 04/08/2004 : 9:49:42 PM
Remember Dr. David Thorpe? Well I do and I just love his diatribes whether I agree or not. They actually make me laugh out loud. Well there is a new one about that lovely band The Darkness. Check it out!

i fail to see what post count has to do with anything.

yeah, ok, so he can play a few songs by good guitarists. and so he plays a couple of solos that pass, for you, as good. now, i have not heard these solos, nor have you made an attempt to describe them, so i can only assumed, based on everything else he's done, that's it's probably not that great. my point remains, that he's a mediocre guitarist and songwriter, in addition to the fact he's copping dave's style. poorly.

therippa Posted - 12/25/2003 : 4:50:03 PM
Has anyone noticed that it's always the people with less than 50 posts that defend him?

...no flame intended
Seth Watters Posted - 12/25/2003 : 3:13:40 PM
Try listening to some of his live cd "Any Given Thursday." He performs Lenny, the Stevie Ray piece, and does a few great solos of his own.

Personally, I completely disagree with anyone who bashes John Mayer. I'm sure this statement will raise some controversy, but he is great guitarist and a great songwriter. No one gives him a chance because he sounds so poppy, but at the core, he is an excellent musician.
JoeGamo05 Posted - 12/19/2003 : 12:09:43 AM
sigh i hate people like this a persons doing what he loves and inspired by others so they make a liivng... maybe the guy was a musician once but never "hit it big" so he's angry at the rest of world? even though i don't like many of those people as much i do of other i still give them respect to the fact that they can play in front of thousands of people and have fun doing it
dan p. Posted - 12/18/2003 : 2:39:00 PM
ah. stupidology.
Arthen Posted - 12/17/2003 : 11:57:59 PM
I think he's a doctor in the same field as Dr. Dre.
dan p. Posted - 12/17/2003 : 4:56:23 PM
i didn't read one thing having to do with music. i read a lot about press and image and fanbase. all of which are totally and utterly meaningless in a discussion of a band's music. he had maybe 2 vague references to guitar playing and musical simplicity. that's not gonna cut it, doc. try knowing something about music before talking about it. what's his doctrite in, anyway?

Dr David Thorpe Sucks!
rubylith Posted - 12/16/2003 : 12:08:24 AM
for someone to spend time on how much something musically sucks is sad. sure everyone has an opinion...i would rather be the guy saying:

"hey i got this new cd, its really great! everything in it is very different, blah, blah"

then the guy saying

"i think that band sucks, i hate them, i wish they would die"

being positive is a better way of achieving a tuned mind to what IS good and what IS bad, and when something is bad, just ignore it, and hopefully it will go away.
Arthen Posted - 12/15/2003 : 11:50:19 PM
Yeah, I really only disagree with him when he talks about "Games Without Frontiers".
Zachmozach Posted - 12/15/2003 : 7:28:41 PM
I'd love it if he actually pointed anything worth reading. You'd think a doctor even though I did'nt read what kind could argue and insult musical groups a little better. All he did was that circle talk stuff. Almost everything he said was like They suck really bad because their not very good, and then he'd mention some lame thing that they had done, or a lame lyic. Then even on the radiohead one he said
"We all have a favorite band. I won't tell you what mine is, because even if you'd heard of them, which you haven't, you couldn't even begin to understand them. I like my favorite band because they're great."
Same thing. My favorite band is the best cause they're great!
Even though I agree with him on a lot of bands on the list I'd like to see it argued better. At least by a doctor anyway.
Fleabass76 Posted - 12/15/2003 : 4:57:42 PM
Ha, that's funny.

But...Bela Fleck and Jeff Coffin told me to listen to Radiohead!!

I'm sure that guy is a doctor..
