Posted - 07/06/2003 : 01:08:10 AM Tonight I had a show in Blackwood, NJ. It was my first solo show in a while ( unlike my normal string of open mic's and opening act / set breaks for other performers). I grew up around Blackwood so I told a bunch of my family and friends about it and they all said that they'd come. You know how many of them came? ONE!!! out of about 15. I played an hour set of flawless material ( including a couple TR and Michael Hedges covers and almost all of my originals) to an "audience" of about ten people. ugh. any of you ever had this problem?? Gonna play in philly on monday... hopefully better luck then.
just so you know.. allllll of you are better than unreliable people who live in south jersey!!! |

And by the way, I always have a mailing addy, I just am not at it most of the TIMe, but you can always send stuff to and I will get it when I get HOME(whatever that is hehe). |

Posted - 07/08/2003 : 2:28:45 PM Congrats on the show Jemez, and better yet, playing on the same stage that TR once graced! I too would love to hear your stuff, if you have anything online, you should post it for us. Even any pictures from your performances would be cool! |

Posted - 07/08/2003 : 08:20:03 AM no recording of the performance, but i have cd's of other performances if you want, Fluffy. I know I told you in Birchmere that I'd send you a cd when it was finished but I knew you were away on tour and prolly didnt have a steady postal address. let me know, though.
Last night i was signed up for the grape st pub but when i got there, they booted me cos i am not 21 But my friend took me to the Fire and it was was awesome. It was a thrill to play on the same stage on which I saw Tim perform last september. People who come out there really know what they're doing. good luck with your show, the rippa |

Posted - 07/07/2003 : 8:51:32 PM The only advice i have is, keep playing live as much as possible, and don't let anything get you down. If not many people are there, then have fun with who did come, take risks, joke around, push limits, just go for the "zone." The more you get comfortable with a small crowd, the more the crowd builds, and builds...
Just keep it up, and don't sweat the small stuff! |

Posted - 07/07/2003 : 8:06:05 PM Once you realize that people's social habits usually consist of empty words and meaningless gestures, it becomes a whole lot less disappointing when you automatically assume that, even though someone said they would show up, they aren't going to come. Your "friends" rarely say what they mean and mean what they say. It's always good to let people know what you're doing but it's much easier if you keep your expectations low.
Of course, it doesn't help at all if you tell them about the gig when one or both of you is drunk. |

Posted - 07/07/2003 : 6:26:10 PM Me and a friend are going to be opening up for some band at the end of this month. It's the first time (well, second if you count an All Along the Watchtower with some other guy who happened to be at a bar within walking distance of my house so I could get my guitar...I guess that did warrant it's own sentence) I'll be playing live, and the first time she'll be doing a non-school function (she's the singer). If everyone who said are gonna come comes, we'll prolly have more people to see us than the real band. People are telling me what time we need to come on and what exact date and such, and all I'm saying is "Hey, the assholes opening for the band can't just tell the manager when the show is gonna be".
Let's see who actually does show up.

Posted - 07/07/2003 : 06:57:53 AM man JFP, happens to my band all the time. We'll play a bar or a gig at some place, and NO one shows up. We're just lucky enough to keep getting called back to play at some places, but i've played to many audiences of only a dozen people before, i know how it feels! |

Posted - 07/06/2003 : 01:14:48 AM Yeah, makes you question your "friends" doesn't it.
Well, congratulations on your flawless show. And hope you have better luck in Philly! |
