Malcolm X was obviously one of the greatest proponents of equal rights for blacks in America that ever lived. However, he was at the same time a highly controversial figure who used techniques and practiced ideals that were not always congruent to mainstream culture. Consequently, the mystique that surrounds him as a sort of elusive islamic-convert who got assassinated often overshadows the great things he accomplished not only for the black constituency but also for humanity.
