Posted - 04/02/2003 : 4:22:17 PM Personally, I don't have enough space to keep my shows as SHN's. Not to mention the fact that you can't seek in a SHN and there are no ID3 tags. Also, my car has an mp3 player, not a SHN player.
I encode to 256kbps, which I wouldn't call "lossy" under any circumstances. And when I give the show to my family or friends, I don't expect them to keep a gig of files around either or have to keep a window open for 6+ hours to transfer them.
There is nothing wrong with 256kbps mp3's if they are encoded correctly. |

Don't most tapers say something like DO NOT ENCODE TO MP3 OR OTHER LOSSY FORMATS? if So then why would you convert them to mp3s? that'S against the tapers rule,
cause tapers have the final say on how you use recordings that no longer belong to them. personaly i find all those "do not encode to mp3 or your lower intestine will shoot straight up through your torso and into your head rendering you a vegtible that shits too frequently" to be a crock. dont trade MP3 sourced show, but do whatever you want with them otherwise. |

Posted - 04/02/2003 : 3:28:49 PM i normaly dont like shn files. their so damn big, thats what makes mp3's nice |

Posted - 04/01/2003 : 3:35:49 PM 99% of the time, what they really mean is "don't redistribute these in lossy formats, but if you want to listen to a crappy MP3, go for it". |

Posted - 04/01/2003 : 2:42:27 PM Actually, the second solo is Stranger in a Strained Land. The first is Neil Young's Harvest into Ohio.
The quality of this show is great. It took about 6 hours to download off the newsgroups last night and my computer at home is converting them to 256kbps mp3's...if anyone has a site where I can put these up so people on this board that can't download 1 gig worth of shn's can get it, let me know. |

Posted - 04/01/2003 : 2:42:20 PM Chatterbox? On Boone? I hear After the Goldrush with a little Ohio in there and Stranger.
Anyway, no wonder it's as amazing as it is. The guy used DPA mics 6 inches from the speaker. I had a whole lecture on those mics. They sound amazing. And also, the company bakes these things to like 400 degrees and then freezes them, and they have to meet spec before they'll ship. |

Posted - 04/01/2003 : 2:28:48 PM Does anyone recognize the first TR song? The second is Chatterbox, but I've never heard the first one before. And, of course, I like it! |

Sorry, Teri. I feel for ya. I grew up on Macs....so when everyone else was getting addicted to Command & Conquer, I just had to sit and listen to them. Bastards.
And thanks for the info Kev.....looks like I don't have anything to look forward to when it's completed. |

Posted - 04/01/2003 : 05:10:07 AM ok guys, I'm stumped and I'm going to need some help here... I downloaded the show, and it made a folder on my desktop with three additional folders inside... all of which contain the music files, but they are in shn or some type of compressed format, but when I try to use the MKW program to turn them into wav, it says "error, no magic number" what am I doing wrong? I'm going to bed now, but hopefully someone can help me so I can hear these tomorrow. Thanks.

Posted - 03/31/2003 : 10:11:30 PM The Bit Torrent is going REALLY slow (5-15kb), so I'm also downloading it off the newsgroup alt.binaries.music.shn.dmb using NewsRobot...it looks like it's going quicker (I've got both running, I've got a ridiculous amount of bandwidth). Later on tonight, after it's done downloading, I'm gonna convert it to mp3. From what I hear on the songs downloaded from the groups, this show was recorded REALLY well, you can't hear the crowd as much as I thought you could. |

Indeed, give it up for the people recording this show. Outstanding job.
