Any fans of Portishead here? My cooworker played me two or their cds recently (Dummy and another on that was Live) and I absolutely loved them. It is amazing music consisting of a female vocalist, somewhere along the lines of a Tori Amos/Fionna Apple/Sneaker Pimps kinda voice... sung over some of the tightest beats I've heard, awesome programming of drum machines. I think Dummy will probably be the next cd I buy, I was that impressed after one listening... oops, damn hopefully Pam doesnt read this... I think she said she needed to save up...

When they played at 9:30 Club, they were AWESOME!! Unfortunately, I do not have a recording of that performance. Keep in mind, the show was very visual as well, I don't know how a live recording will come across. Hopefully, well, you will have to LMK. Don't forget to check out OLIVE.

Thanks for the tip about Olive... we actually have that cd at work, so I'll probably check it out soon.

One of the guitarists is from Perfect Circle. I've listened to the cd a few times at work and at first I was kinda indifferent about it... but after a few listens I started to like it a bit more... you just have to get past the fact that it isnt Smashing Pumpkins, and as a result it isnt as dark, and is a bit more poppy that SP, but it is definately growing on me.

Zwan is his new band. New female guitarist and new bass player. Also I think an added guitaritst. Really not up to par with the Pumpkins.Lack depth. Just my opinion though.

so is zwan just a side project for billy corgan, or is
it going to be a long running kind of band?

HAHAHA Yeah, whatever the reason I guess I did save some bucks...or not, who knows because when I go back, which I definitely will do someTIMe soon, I may just end up spending more than I would have if I had been allowed to keep shopping???

Guess we should have put a warning in the TITLE of this post "Do Not Read PJK". HEHE Looks like the powers that be were looking out for you and saving you a little money. HEHE Who knows, maybe it stopped you from buying something you wouldn't have liked and would have felt like you wasted your money. Maybe the power outage was a sign from above!(or maybe it was just an electrical thing HEHE)

Very funny Kevin! hehe Actually I am trying real hard to be good. My son brought home the Zwan CD over the weekend. I am probably going to buy a copy of it although I was disappointed because it's no Smashing Pumpkins! I loved Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

Tomorrow night I am going to Philly to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra so I will probably be on a classical kick for a while, hehe.

Portishead sounds interesting but I have a long list of music to get so you don't have to worry about me running out to buy this any TIMe soon.

BTW Kevin, you would have laughed, I was in Best Buy Friday night and just wandering up and down the aisles looking at CD'S when boom, off go the lights! The back up generators finally came on but everyone had to go to the front of the store so I couldn't continue to look! I waited about 20 mins and the fire engines were pulling up so I left empty handed........that HAS to be a first, me walking out of Best Buy without a CD. ( No fire, just power loss.) The perfectly fitting ending to my perfectly hellish week!

i have never heard them, but i was reading this great book called "in the land of winter" about a pagan mommy who loses her daughter to social services... anyway they mentioned that the mom was listening to that group.

Portishead Dummy is a GREAT CD. I really like them as well. You may also want to check out OLIVE. Very similar, maybe even a little better I think. I hope PJK doesn't read this as well. For her financial sake. HEHE
