Posted - 11/20/2002 : 6:27:52 PM I started a band recently w/ some of my friends form school. Our sound is kind of like a mix of Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Tool, Bowie, and bizzare noises being made by my guitar.
We also cover several Tool songs.
So that is what our sound is like, to get a feel for the band is why i said that.
So here are some names i have thought of, tell me if u like anyone in particular, or have suggestions.
In no particular order:
The Stasis Pandora's Box Eons The Alpha Project Hypnogogic (probaby a better album name) Venial
There were more, but i cant remember them and i have lost the list. This choise has become far too much of a problem for us then it should be, but we dont want a stupid name. So anyway, let me know. |

That's always been one of my favorite band names.
Ominous Seapods is another. They are both actual bands however.I'm not sure Watch the Teeth Kate is still together though. |

Posted - 11/20/2002 : 10:17:25 PM I have always thought the name Loath To Die would be a cool band name.
On a somewhat related note, I wish to do an electric project with a sound similar to Live and call it Shades Of Bacchus (I get the name from a line from a WC Fields movie). Though my first love is my acoustic singer/songwriter David Grayish stuff, this electric project will be what I get into after I establish myself as a singer/songwriter on acoustic (if and when that ever happens). By established, I don't mean I dream of grandeur, or being on TRL weekly, a steady income from local gigs would be established enough for me.
Also, I've wanted to do an all electronic project called Lomez. Lomez would be the project name, album name, and the songs would be titled Lomez 1, Lomez 2, Lomez 3, etc... But Lomez 1 would not necessarily be track 1, Lomez 2 not track 2, etc... Lomez 24 may be on the first CD, first track, while Lomez 1 may never even be written. It's way out there I know, but these are things I'm interested in, and this thread got me thinking about them again.
Yes, the name Lomez is taken from a friend of Kramer's on Seinfeld.

Posted - 11/20/2002 : 6:57:08 PM Pandoras Box is too simple, too obvious of a band name, no offence.
Hypnogogic is too hard to say.
If you go with The Stasis, drop "The." -but do you want to be "a stable state," cause that's what you'd be, by definition.
That leaves Eons, The Alpha Project and Venial.
Eons is pretty good...but just seems funny off the tongue. EEeeeons is how I want to say it. EEeeeeeeeons. Looonng e.
I don't know about Venial. Could be good.
The Alpha Project. I don't get the name, but I'll tell you this. I won't say every because it's not true, but I've noticed this: Many great bands have names that can be shortened to the first letter of each word in their name. While I do not think this necessarily leads to their popularity (and not necessarily popularity), I do see some relation. DMB, TR3, ABB, TR, JJ, DTB, LZ, D&T, LK just to mention a few (some maybe you haven't heard of or don't recognize, that's not the point).
So my choice, mr Saint Jude, is TAP. |
