I think the numbers he liked were 100, 400, and 2500...these are all perfect squares...
10x10=100
20x20=400
50x50=2500
So the answer is 900 because
30x30=900
That one was pretty tuff.... |

And I didn't understand the One where the guy likes 400 not 300 and 100 not 99 and 2500 not 2400 what number does he like?
900 1000 1100 1200
The only thing I could even think of guessing was 1100 and the thought process is a little tricky to explain. Usually you don't have to go that deep to figure them out. |

I actually scored a 140 on the test...visual mathematician.
I'm smart enought to know that they are merely patting our quantified egos to pad there pocket books.

It looks like everone who took the test ranges from 121-135. Pretty strange. Maybe TR's music only attracts people within this IQ range, which is why there are so few people here.

I didn't intend my observation to sound mean; I was just trying to make a point similar to DirtySloth's test taking skills comment: I think a *REAL* IQ evaluation wouldn't test math/reading skills. Otherwise somebody who has been living under a rock and hasn't gone to school (like "Nell" - remember that movie) could never be tested.

Well......you have to agree that it does show intellegence. Just not all types of intellegence. I believe that every person is intellegent, but either they're too lazy or too self-involved to care.

Hey Jamie M, that's one of those questions that's really an opinion question, and depending how you look at it, there could be more than one answer. Which goes right back to what I was saying about being a good test taker... you gotta know what they want. I don't know if I got that one right, but I put coconut because it has a shell.

But you seemed to have figured that out... if it's the fraction that got ya, you simply multiply the denominators. 1/2 of 1 is 1/2, so look at it like 1/1 x 1/2 = 1/2. Same thing. 1/4 x 1/4 = 1/16.

What answer did anybody else get for 64 16 4 1 ...? I would have chosen 1/4, but it wasn't an option. So what was the right answer? I don't want to pay 14.95 just to find out.

No.....you're taking the wrong approach. First, you should draw out what each car does independently. Let's just say that one car travels 6 miles to the right, and then turns left (up) and travels eight miles: cooridinates(6,8). Now.....the other car travels left 6 miles and then down 8: coordinates(-6,-8). The distance between them would be a straight line that goes from (-6,-8) to (6,8). This line passes through the origin. Now, the easiest way to solve, is to see on car's movements as a triangle. The 6 is the adjacent and the 8 is the opposite. Now you use the pythagorean theorem....a^2 + b^2 = c^2, where a and b are 6 and 8. C (the hypotenuse) comes out to be 10. And since the other car did the same thing in the other direction, it is also 10.....therefore making the answer 20.
P.S. this would be much easier to explain if I could draw on this message board.

Nope. It's looking for the shortest path. If you draw a line from one endpoint to the other, you will end up with two triangles. This question involves the equation a^2 + b^2 = c^2. That is, the sum of the squares of the sides equals the square of the hypotenuse. 6 squared is 36, plus 8 squared, which is 64, equals 100. Take the square root of that, 10, and multiply that by two, and you get 20. That's the answer.

Two cars start off at the same point on a straight highway facing opposite directions. Each car drives for 6 miles, takes a left turn, and drives for 8 miles. How far apart are the two cars?
Each car drives for 6 miles - their 12 miles apart, both drove 6 miles
takes a left turn, and drives for 8 miles - that would be 16 miles there right... so wouldnt it be 28 total miles... but that wasnt an option.... anyone.

I got 131 and it said that I was a processor or something like that.......but it said that I was best at math, which is very true. The highest I heard was 280 (Steven Hawkins), but remember from the Simpsons, most of the people in the MENSA group had scores ranging from 160-200. So I guess it isn't that bad. But I also remember Seinfeld where Elaine took the IQ test for George and got an 85 the first TIMe, and then got a 160 the second TIMe. Ahhhhhhh....what great shows......

I got a 135, whatever that means. It says I'm a "Facts Curator". How high does it go anyway? I've never taken a real IQ test before. Um. I don't really think it's a good way to measure intelligence. It just means that you're good at taking tests. There are many other kinds of intelligences... music, for instance. Maybe a person is horrible at an IQ test, but is intelligent because of how musically creative they are. In fact, Howard Gardner came up with the "Multiple Intelligences Theory" and he says there are seven, of which they only test four here. And there really are many more I think. So it is fun to do, just for fun, but it definitely isn't a way to compare intelligence levels with anyone else(unlike post counts).
