Whenever I log on to the internet, regardless of my homepage, I get pop-ups every TIMe! SomeTIMes, when I'm on this message board for a few hours, they show up every 30 minutes. And I gets really annoying! It slows down the internet for me, all because of websites I don't want to see. Can anyone help me? I remember reading somewhere that you can download something or get rid of something on you computer to stop this. Any help will be appreciated..........DAMN IT!!! They did it again! I was typing and after writing an entire sentence, I look up and see that nothing registered because of the damn pop-up!!!!!!!! AAAAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't know.....but when I go home this weekend to drop off all the non-essential stuff before finals (so the final move isn't that bad), I'll check........oh.......and where exactly would I check?

What DSL service is this? I'm intrigued.

I got the normal .exe file off of Kazaa. Its not a trial, if you want that one, maybe i could send you the .exe through AIM or something.

Interesting.....so these "educational uses" would be like for a research paper, per se?

Hmm... mine is the normal version. I can't remember where I got it... if you give me the version number of your program, I might 'theoretically' be able to get you the serial number for educational uses only... you know, in theory.

What's different about Mac internet access?

pcbTIM Posted - 05/01/2002 : 12:24:53 PM
The thingt that sucks about it is that it is only a trial.....so you get it for 30 days.......hmmmmmm....maybe there's a way to get rid of it, and then reinstall it......but I'm sure there's a way for the program to identify your computer.......unless there's a way to erase that information......Silky? Any tips? I don't need it right now because I only get to use the internet on my laptop for another 9 days because I'm going back home for summer and we only have Mac internet access there.

Yep, maybe I'll have to get this program too. Not too fond of the poop-ups.

Yes it did! Thanks a ton! I just love the sound it makes whenever it blocks a pop-up. I can't get tired of it. Also, my friend told me to go to Tools....Internet Options and click Delete Cookies, Delete Files (offline and online). After doing that I also had like 500 MB freed up. But when I found out that it worked, I decided to put it to the ultimate test and went to a random porn site. I heard that wonderful noise like 10 TIMes. Thanks again!

Glad it helped you Kevin... if you are ever trying to open a window and it blocks it, just hold ctrl while you click on the link and it will allow it. All in all, it's a great little program.

Patrick, did that get rid of you problem?

2 programs to download and you'll be golden...

First is a program called "Ad-aware." It basically scans your computer and finds all the hidden ad files that a bunch of websites put on your computer. I had the same problem as you with the random pop-ups but that fixed it. Just make sure the get the update software so you can have the most up-to-date protection.

Second program is called "Pop-up Stopper." Take a wild guess at what it does... it blocks pop-ups.

Between the two of those you should be good to go. It also can't hurt to run a virus scan on a regular basis. If you go to http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_pcc.asp that is a very good online scan that is free. You can get the other two programs from download.com. Hope that helps.

And I now retract my earlier statement of "any help will be appreciated".....and replace it with "any REAL help will be appreciated".
