CUBE! Very cool, creepy movie. Anyone seen it? It is great how paranoia kicks in and destroys people.

Any chance you could share you advance copy with a friend overseas? Or did you have to give it back?

I knew there was mention of School of Rock on here somewhere. We got an advanced VHS copy (way in advance too, the release date is not until March) at work and I took it home to watch last night. I must say I was thoroughly impressed and entertained during the whole movie. Krystal, I thought that line was hilarious too. Talk about the perfect role for Jack Black!

LOVED School of Rock. One of the funniest lines of the movie: (Jack Black is talking to a classroom full of kids and their parents) "Your kids have really touched me, and I'm pretty sure I've touched all of them too." (Parents react in horror :)

School of Rock. Jack Black has earned my respect. A very good actor. Keep in mind, it is a "kids" movie (PG13), so it gets a teeny bit cheesy. Has a great message though.

RAWK N'ROLL BABY!!!!!

Teri, I've seen that CUBE 2 in the video store for about a year now, but never bothered renting it, mainly because I seriously doubted that it could live up to the first one, but now that I've heard you say that it was good, I'll have to check it out.

The Cube is awesome! My math teacher showed it to us in Highschool!

My all time favorite is The Crow, hands down. The sequel sucked but the third one was pretty damn good too.

I also watched Insomnia on HBO a few weeks ago, another really good movie.

Can't wait to pick up Scarface on DVD tomorrow!!!!

For anyone who's interested, there's a sort of sequel to Cube now. It's called Hypercube: Cube 2. I ran across it in the video store yesterday and really enjoyed it. (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0285492/)

It's similar to the other movie, but supposedly in four dimensions, rather than three. Another difference is that the prisoners seem to be less randomly chosen this time around. Also, the cube rooms are more high tech and there is considerable CGI used in the movie. They must have had a bigger budget... but I think Cube still ranks higher for creep factor. If anybody else rents it, let me know what you think.

Two other recent rentals I thought were interesting were 1) Romper Stomper and 2) The Believer. I rented the first one because it was supposed to be like American History X, only it stars Russell Crowe and was made in Australia. It was pretty good, but nowhere near as intelligent as American History X.

The video store man suggested The Believer to me when I returned Romper Stomper. (This is why I like independent DVD rental stores; Blockbuster would never suggest an independent film!) It's about a Jewish guy who hides his background and becomes a Nazi skinhead. It's very loosely based on the story of a Jewish guy who was a KKK member in the 60's. I might not have appreciated the movie as much without an interview with the director that was included in special features. But I still find myself pondering whether a Jewish kid could really turn to fascism...

I enjoyed Pi, but I absolutely love CUBE. I have owned it since it came out on video. I have tried to turn some friends on to it, but nobody seems to enjoy it as much as I do. I do admit, I have some pretty bizarre tastes, especially in movies, but I really don't see how CUBE is that annoying to everyone. Hey Kevin, if you liked CUBE you should check out Closetland. Here is a link:

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0101597

They are not at all similar, but for some reason, I really associate those 2 movies. Maybe its because Closetland takes place in one small room, and you are never quite sure what is going on until the end. Still a great movie as well. Check it out!

you may be a bit confused Jason... Pi was the same director as Requeum for a dream. I don't believe there is any relation to Cube, except that they are all pretty good films.

If you liked cube you should check out Pie....made by same person....at least I think it was

If u wanna talk about movies that blow your mind, Mulholland Drive seriously put me in a daze for like 8 hours until i figured it out. Then i went back the next day to make sure what i got was right. I dont think it is out in theaters any longer but when it comes out on VHS/DVD get it, watch it alone and uninterupted, cuz u gotta really pay attention.

Other movies i would recomend,.... O, Navy Seals.

NONONO... Cell is with Lopez.. Cube is nothing along those lines.

The Game is with Michael Douglass is is perhaps my favorite movie of all time. Just when you think you have it figured out... it fuks you over again!

enthuTIMsiast Posted - 01/29/2002 : 11:35:22 AM
Usual Suspects = great movie.

Game... is that with Michael Keaton or someone like that? Where they do all kinds of mean stuff to him and then he falls off a building and they tell him it was a game?

Yeah I like that movie too.

I just found out the other day that one of my friends hasn't seen either The Game or The Usual Suspects. I'm going to dillywhap him and then make him watch both....

What is Cube though? The Cell is the one that pcdmb is thinking of with J-LO.

I think I'll recommend a classic ... Watership Down. Yes, I know it's a cartoon, but I loved the book when I was a kid.

I haven't seen that one, but I like creepy movies. I'll have to check it out sometime. I watched L.A. Confidential last night. Russell Crowe is awesome!

but...but....doesn't that star Jennifer Lopez?! I'd rather die than see that.
