When TR guests, it's for an entire show. He plays amazing background parts/layers on every song. When Fleck's out there, it's for two or three songs.

LOL, I was about to get all bitchy because I HATE comparing musicians, but then going to the site and seeing that it was who you'd rather see guesting with DMB I became my old sweet self again, hahaha.

Hands down, TR! The bitch..er...witch...er....queen, has spoken!

Ha ha ha, that's awesome John.

Having Rober Randolph play distorted steel guitar with the band is a weak but pleasant substitute for not having Tim. Very rocking, makes Lousiana Bayou a great song to listen to.

Why all the fighting? Can we have both? Or even better, just forget about DMB and have a duet with TR and Bela Fleck. That would be one kickass show.

I hate to say it, but the last time DMB played with Tim was on 8/23/04. He came on at the end of the set for only 4 songs:

Help Myself -- on the latest Warehouse 8 cd
Crash Into Me
Dancing Nancies
Too Much

Still it was great for him to come on with his Les Paul Custom

I have the 12-1-98 version of Two Step where they Duel. I agree, it it fucking nuts. By the Way, TR won the duel.

and YES! A TR/Bela tour would be amazing, but probably won't happen.

Oh wow, that sounds like it would have been amazing. I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones at Princeton's McCarter Theatre a number of years ago, could have sat there many more hours and listened to them play. Bela is crazy on the banjo, I had seats up near the front, he totally blew me away!

If I could have heard Bela and TR play Two Step I would have thought I died and went to heaven! I am so jealous of you,Ranting Thespian!

I was looking at that thread and one thing that bothered me was the fact that someone said TR doesn't really sync up with the rest of the band. Saying that he makes it too intense or something. I think that's a bogus statement. Sometimes a DMB song needs some boosting. After all, my favorite version of Two Step is on the first Warehouse 5 CD where TR just wails on the electric guitar. Honestly, I think it just raises the song's kickassity.

Not only does Tim raise the kickassity, I don't see how someone can comment that he doesn't sync-up with band. He was such an integral part of the band in the beginning. If anyone DOES sync-up with the band then it's definitely Tim. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.

One of the reasons BTCS rules as much as it does is because TR's on it! The electric guitar work on Rapunzel is the driving force behind it. Other versions sound lackluster. The acoustic slapping on Last Stop is a great touch. The clean solo on Crush is one of my favorite parts of the song. The watery guitar work on Pig, priceless! His touches polish off DMBs material for me.

I also miss not hearing Tim's muted electric on Don't Drink the Water. It gives it such a more angry feel. Just that little bit pushes the album's version from a good song to greatness.

TR was on Crash and UTTAD as well.

Bela guests on BTCS along with Alanis...I really like what she adds to the couple of songs she sings on, and enjoying Bela's contribution goes without saying.

Overall, it's just an amazing album.

If you listen carefuly at the end of Halloween, when Dave is singing his "opera style" stuff, you hear Alanis saying "Fuck it off you mother fucking fucker." She doesn't get any credit on that track though . . . hmmm, I wonder why ;) .

Halloween is the #1 song on my list to hear live at a DMB show. Don't think it's gonna happen, though :(

Halloween's the only track off of BTCS I haven't heard live. I'd kill to hear it. KILL.

Yeah, I always liked Alanis on Halloween. It also seems like Bela is on a lot more than he is credited for too.

Thought I would share an interesting bit 'o' triva that I found out because of this thread. I mentioned this thread to TR this morning at our morning stop at Starbucks and he had a nice chuckle. He also told me that Bela inspired the intro section of Che. He said he was watching Bela play some classical music on the banjo on TV and was quite impressed with the "efficiency" with which Bela accomplished with so many open strings. He said it inspired the legato in his left hand that he uses in the opening section of Che. He tried to explain how it's different for an electric guitarist to approach a solo because they don't tend to use open strings the way that Bela does when playing the banjo. So there you have it, inspiration from all sorts of places. I told TR that the variety of inspirations and influences he has never ceases to amaze me. Thought you all might like a little background on Che since it seems to be a new fan fave.

Actually, I do mind but please don't be offended. I wrote about this once before, kind of opened a can of worms and Fluffy graciously made the thread disappear because I was getting so upset about it.

I shouldn't have even brought this up again and I think after the tour I might just ask TIM directly. You know how some things just bother you in life and you can't let go of it even though it may be really stupid not to just let go of it? Well that is what it is with me and that song. Love the tune, hate the title.

Now, back to TR VS Bela..........TR hands down!
