Michael Coppola Plays a nine-string guitar, not tuned similarly to any other guitarist you've heard. I believe it goes E B G D D A D A E, with strings 5 and 6 tuned a to the D and A a whole-step apart from string 1 and 2's E and B. The top four strings and bottom 3 strings are tuned in the common octaves found on the 6 string guitar. The extra strings enable him to play lines and voicings like a piano player would, closed voicings without the annoying and cumbersome stretches.
The result is absolutely incredible playing, songs like flight of the bumblebee, numerous Chet Atkins songs, classics like Little Wing, etc. etc. His playing is as versatile as Tim's, if I dare say so, as on one of this albums titled Monster Guitar, he plays Classical, Jazz, Country, and Rock, all unbelievable arrangements too. http://www.9string.com/mp3/Cable_Modm/Monster/Bumble_Bee.mp3 http://www.9string.com/mp3/Cable_Modm/Monster/Little_Wing.mp3 http://www.9string.com/mp3/Cable_Modm/NewImpresn/RngTouch.mp3 http://www.9string.com/mp3/Cable_Modm/NewImpresn/RoxyAgn.mp3 http://www.9string.com/
Perhaps another guy you've never heard of is Tom Shinness. He plays the guitar-harp. I can't even really describe the thing well, you'll just have to click the website and see for yourself. Wonderful colors and textures coming from his instrument. http://www.tomshinness.com/ |
