Personally I tend not to play just Tim songs. I'll be jamming around or playing one of my own songs and then I'll work in parts of different Tim songs just for fun. Such as:

Smile
Loose Interpretations
Turn It Into Love
After the Dust Settles
There is No Judgement
Continue
Leelines

Steve Hackett: "I'm my own opening act, you see."
Tim (before "Faceoff"): "Peace, love....and SEX!"

Pimp, I'm curious to hear your version of To Touch Yearning. I have noodled with it, but I'm never sure if it sounds full enough.

Other than that I have put some hours into: Hopeful Heresy, Jemez Rolling Waves, Entity, As Far As We Can See, Rheginos and the Resurrection, Valley of Flowers, And Then They Were Free, Decline in Reason, Dissident, Heaven is in the Heart, Letting Go, You Are My Sanity, and am currently working on Breathing Space.

Hopeful, my version's nothing special. I've never really learned it to the point where i can rock out to it and have that full sound that Tim gets. My guess is that it's a combination of both his kickass guitar, his impeccable technique, and his wonderful way of never really playing it much like we have it tabbed.

I'm not perfect completely at them but I definetly have most of the parts for
Flourescence and Is Anybody Here

The harmonics in IAH are tough to get loud but i can manage them

I never really fucked with IAH? becuase of those harmonics, they're so clear and fast. I have that 5-5-00 show on DVD and he just rips those puppies clean as a hospital toilet.

I can play the first two notes of Kundalini Bonfire. I can also play an A-chord along with Jemez...doesn't sound too good though.

Seriously though - I realize that I'll never be able to play these songs the way TR does. TRYING to play them just makes me angry because it's so damn difficult. I'll just let TR play them for me from now on.

That's my thinking sometimes. I can play Stream, Sanity, and There Is No Judgment. As well as Indoctrinate, Beneath The Surface, It's Dead, Bowl Of The Altar, and BackDoor on electric.

But most of his stuff is beyond me.

They're not nearly as hard as you'd think. It took me about five minutes of practice straight to get them to the point where I could play them how I would want to if i were to play the song(still not on Tim's level though). My technique is using the thumb and index for the b string, and the middle for the e. It's almost like a downward rasquedos of only three fingers, only just moving the index and middle up a string so that the thumb and index overlap onto the same string.

Sorry... I shouldn't have messed with you when you've only been on the BOARD for 18 posts. I'm the neighborhood grammar queen; I enjoy giving people a hard time regarding spelling and grammar. It's all in good fun. When I make mistakes, though, there are celebrations for miles around.

My frets are a bit worn down, I have a Taylor 110, and I can't get the harmonics clean on fret 5, so I just don't play them, I am getting it fixed this spring, so maybe then I'll tackle it again when my frets aren't all grooved out.

Do you have expression system electronics in your taylor? I have a 314ce and and I find the electronics to be very very fucking fragile. I've gotten my guitar replaced about 3 times because of the electronics completely failing, and now I think a wire is loosening from all the slapping I do.

nevertheless, they can get one hell of a sound out of them.

Do you guys get most of your stuff from the tabs section here, or are there other sources?

I've enjoyed playing around with the tabs, but they're typically just dumbed down versions, which irritates me...my ear isn't good enough to figure them out on my own.

One of my prized posessions is my Dave and Tim Luther College book, because it gives me a nice verison of Stream to play around with. I've almost got it, but still have some work left to do.

The board's own Jeff Abeles has done some pretty f-ing good Tim tabs, as well as FiS and Jamie McMurroch, which I think can be found on the Tab Section page.

Pimp, no I just threw a Rare Earth in mine, it's not a great guitar, so I didn't go with a great pick-up. Right now I'm looking at a Martin JC-16RGTE that has a FishmanŽ Prefix Premium Stereo Onboard Blender in it. I wonder if that has the same problems your electronics do. I heard that new Fishman Aura system is supposed to be pretty sick. Just curious, what kind of amp do you play through? I have a Fender Acoustisonic FX2 (the big one) but it doesn't pack quite enough wallop for me.

I play through a Marshall AR50S acoustic amp, I like it because it has two channels, and i can add a splash of reverb and chorus to give a more room filling sound. Also has some good sound filtering functions on it(notch, noise filter, etc.).

Fishman Aura is a very nice system, go for that one.

Skyline, the trick is to not just learn those tabs straight out of the book mechanically, but also learn why the song works, or just how the notes all fit together. After time, especially with big pieces like Stream, you'll build up this knowledge of theory that you can apply to other songs you learn to make tabs like on this site so much more useful.
