Hey Fluffy and Miss Sorrell (and everyone else we ran into)...

Jon and I hope you guys made it back safe. After you guys left the hotel room the snow in Boone started coming down hard, and as I figured Lester didn't make it to pick us up. After abot 5 hours of frantically calling the three cabs that exist in Boone, we got ahold of Lester's boss and he picked us up. We missed our 7am flight, but are going to be making it out of here at 11am. I'm at the tri-cities airport right now, and couldn't believe they have free internet so I wanted to give a status update.

I'm tired
I'm hungry
I'm delirious
I'm almost home

So anyway, we had a great TIMe last night. My wrist hurts from this ty keyboard...ttyl

I won!!! Whew woooo... I got home first!!!

As for a brief review... AMAZING... blew me away. Tim was incredible, and Dave wasn't too shabby himself. This trip was made with good decisions, and going to Boone vs. going back to Fl which seems even uglier now, was one of the better choices I have made in a while. A more detailed review once a very needed nap and shower are taken is on its way for sure. And for God's sake, the last TIMe I brushed my teeth was in the hotel room!

Rippa, I am sorry Lester didn't make it... Can you blame him though? 3:45am is a horrible TIMe to have any responsibility. Nonetheless though, I hope your 11am flight treated you well!

We caught some of the snow and the sleet for that matter. Whew... 4 Florida kids going down a mountain, with snowy/icy/wet roads. WTF... it's an oxy-moron in itself. Don't know how you northerners do it. But while my three buds swore at one another, other cars, and NC in general, I made my second best decision for that trip, and just slept the whole way down the mountain, putting my trust into Steve, God, the mountain, and mother nature... obviously, they all pulled through.

As for being delirious, during my driving shift, I thought I was seeing very large people, but as it turns out were only trees; and I also carried a conversation with Laura, or so I thought… it wasn’t until I looked in the rear-view mirror and saw that she was completely passed out that I realized that I was talking to the windshield wiper… fortunately, I was the only person in the car who was awake for that.

Fluffy, Jason, Jon, and everybody else I met, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you all! Ya'll (taking Boone with me) played a very special role in this trip for not only me, but for my friends as well, it really added a lot to this whole event. So don't be surprised if some of our new members on the board are Miss Laura, Miss Megan, and Mr. Steve.... in fact, Megan asked if TR is coming to Orlando anyTIMe soon... Fluffy??? Would there be any way to arrange that?

So good TIMes were had my all in my party, and I hope everybody else who was at the concerts or at the ones to come can say the same. This is really making me look forward to more shows and meeting more of the board!

And so much for being brief….

I'm second =). I ran into you guys outside the tour bus area...had my brief hello and had to jet to will call and the people I was meeting but it was very cool to see you guys. Tim's representation is always good to have around. Very solid show, but the girl behind me kinda ruined it with her unbelievably resistant vocal chords. Chick could scream for minutes on end. Tim's Ohio was bad ass, glad I heard it. Other than that, the snow was a nice touch, except my car is rear wheel drive...so I booked out at about 2:30. Hope all is well and people drove/flew safely.

Later!

As fate would have it Boone ended up being an improptu board gathering of sorts.

Here's part of my story(and I'm sticking to it). Lisa(TR's publicist)called on Monday and asked if I was going to make it to any of the shows. Turns out TR was really bummed I didn't make it to NYC with everyone else. I felt bad(surprise surprise, I am damn good at that). I missed the show in NYC as I had to work for Brock in Baltimore on the same nite. An RCA bigwig(Dave Einstien)came down from NYC for Brocks show in Baltimore. He is now talking of bringing Brock to NYC for a showcase. Anyway, back to the TR story. So I couldn't go to the NYC show. Lisa tried to get me to go to Norfolk by using the "it's only a short drive" lecture and the "TR really wants to see you" lectures. Unfortunately Norfolk was not in the cards as I had to work Ani DiFranco in Baltimore.(Do you get the feeling I have to many jobs or at least obligations?)So Norfolk was a no-go. Wed came and went and Lisa called on Thursday to inform me she was going to the Winston-Salem show. I was under the false impression that was a 8 or 9 hour drive, when I discovered that mapquest had it at a 6 hour drive I figured I could do it in 4 hours-ish. So I arranged to meet Lisa in Winston-Salem. So Friday comes and I wake up early(for me at least) and take care of last minute Chris Whitley business before the weekend and head out to the highway. OH MY GAWD!!! Friday afternoon going south on 95, need I say more. A 1-1 1/2 hour trip to Richmond VA took me close to 3 hours, over an hour to get across Richmond during rush hour and then the rain came. I drove and drove like a bat outta hell and finally got within spitting distance(Greenville NC:20 minutes from venue). Of course I am already 15 minutes late for the show and Lisa informs me that I have only missed 3 songs and that I am about 20 mins away. So I hang up and put the pedal to the metal and as I cross the next hill traffic comes to a dead STOP(for the next hour to 1 1/2 hours NO LIE)I am now feeling genuinely cursed. 20 mins away and I can't seem to catch a fucking break. Although I did manage to escape a 95 mph speeding ticket, but thats a whole different story. So after much yelling, screaming, minor heart attacks and MUCH traffic, I finally arrive at the venue at 9:45. Have I finally conquered the trip and my seemingly endless bad luck? You would think yes, but OHHH NOOO. So I walk up to will call to pick up my ticket and boom, will call is closed, and I mean CLOSED. Metal gate down nobody there etc etc etc. Fuming, I go to the door and they tell me they have no idea how I can pick up my tix. I start banging on doors to the box office and finally I hear a voice, "come out to the window!". So I run out to the window and they have opened the will call box office for me. I tell them I should be on list, pass them my ID and watch as she searches her box for my name. NADA, ZILCH, GOOSEGGS, NOTHING. The tix have all been picked up the box office manager who has already gone to settlement with the band with my ticket. So the nice girl in the box office starts trying to get her boss on the phone to bring my ticket down. I in the meantime call Lisa, who has no cell phone reception in the venue and leave a nasty message explaining the situation and telling her sorry I missed her but I have had enuf and I am going home. I hang up and decide to give the girl in the box 5 more minutes as she still has my ID and I can't storm off in a huff without my ID. Within a few minutes my ticket and pass arrive and enter the building, not in the best of moods, OBVIOUSLY. I search out the backstage and find Lisa. I am now starting to calm down. Lisa and I chat and go in and watch a bit of the show. I got in during All Along the Watchtower and stayed just long enuf to see TR's second solo of that evening(Kundalini Bonfire). Then Lisa and I go backstage, shoot the shit, discuss bizness and generally end up having a great TIMe seeing each other. Finally the end of the show comes and TR comes back and we hang for about 45 minutes and then I walk him to his bus and send him on his way to Charlotte. As he leaves, he says "See you tomorrow in Boone?" And I say "Yes!" I have now decided to attend the Boone show as it is only 90 miles away and there is no possible way I can miss it unless something really BAD happens. Plus, it seemed like TR really wanted me there, so I opted to stay on for the next show. Lisa and I hung with TR's old booking agent Hugh after TR left. We went to a bar called Ziggys which turned out to be one of the very first places I ever played with TR3. We closed the place down and I mean closed the place down. Lisa was getting them to get us drinks after they were closed as we had missed the last call announcement. By this TIMe, Hugh and his friend Alice had left and Lisa and I were joined by Mason and Jason Squires(RS photographer). After our last round of drinks, we went our seperate ways and I told Mason and Jason I would see them in Boone tomorrow. I took Lisa back to her hotel which was back in the opposite direction of Boone and back to the scene of the horrendous traffic jam I had encountered just 20 mins from the gig. I ended up staying with Lisa at her hotel and we stayed up to the crack of dawn chatting away like sorority girls. Lisa unfortunately couldn't stay for Boone as she had to get back to her husband and kids and was kind enuf to let me sleep in. When I awoke at 11am, she was gone and I was on my own again. I drove back to Winston-Salem and pulled into a gas station and parked next to a car with Florida tags with a really sketchy looking dude behind the wheel. I went in and asked where the bathrooms where and she said they were outside around the corner. So I head for the bathrooms and as I come around the corner there are 2 girls guarding the mens bathroom door. Guess who it is? Miss Sorrel and her friend Megan. I ask why they are using the mens bathroom and she says the woman gave her the wrong key. At this point Laura comes out and everyone is introduced Laura goes off to get a bottle of water. We are laughing about the key mixup and I grab the key and try it on the door to the womans bathroom and it works fine. I opt to use the womans bathroom(It's usually cleaner and somewhat safer)We all laugh about the the girls using the mens room and me using the womens room. HEHE We walk around to the cars and I am introduced to Steve, who is sitting in the car waiting and turns out to not be a sketchy guy at all, but quite a nice chap. After much discussion about the shitty drive down I had, I discover that this wild bunch has also decided, like me, to venture on to Boone for the next show. I acquire some passengers to ride with me so I don't have to ride alone again and now it's me, Miss Sorrel, and Laura in my car and Steve and Megan in Steve's car. Steve says he doesn't really know how to get there and I tell him to "Follow ME, I HAVE A MAP!!". It is a beautiful drive to Boone, scenery and company! Boone is situated in the Appalacian Mt's and boy is it beautiful and high up. We arrive with no incidents and we begin the heady task of locating tix for the wild bunch I have acquired. I call Mason and arrange to meet up with him before the show, but he hasn't arrived in Boone yet. So I send the wild bunch off to the box office to scout tix, I head backstage to see if I can find TR. I enter at the tail end of soundcheck(perfect TIMing)and accompany TR to the dressing room with Dave. I wish I had had my camera, cause it was such a cute site walking behind Dave as he had his 2 babies in his arms and they were studing the hell out of me over his shoulder as we walked. TR briefly introduced me to Dave and Dave kinda turned and said "Oh, we've met!" and I assured him we had not, but that we had talked on the phone a few TIMes and Dave said, "Oh, that's right!" As his hands were full we did not shake hands. At that point we parted ways and Dave headed to the "Home Away from Home" dressing room and TR and I headed to the T&D dressing room. We chatted about the simple drive and how it had been nothing like my first drive and yada yada yada and after pleasantries and chit chat I left TR to go have his dinner. I ventured back outside to see if I could find Mason, Sorrel, Laura, or anyone and as I am walking out of the backstage area, I hear my name being called. It's therippa(Jason) and Jon who have flown in from SF for the show. As I am talking to them CPPJames walks up, then Miss Sorrel and part of her crew show up. It is now becoming quite the message board get together. Totally out of the blue and unplanned. Pretty kewl I am thinking to myself. TR Task Force representin'!!About this TIMe Sorrel gets the word the box office has opened and runs off to acquire tix. The wild bunch comes back with 4 floor seats. Everyone is psyched and wants to partae. Oh by the way, I left out our many trips to the car for clothes changing and general organization, suffice it to say, it was much colder at that elevation than it had been in Winston-Salem. Everyone was cold, especially the girls and Megan had a bad ankle, but it didn't stop her from sprinting away mid-sentence about complaining about it when the crowd gathering backstage starting screaming Dave. HEHE While she tried to meet Dave we all decided, or should I say Jason and Jon offered to let us go back to their hotel room and wait out doors. We took the opportunity to get beers and everyone got good and toasty before the show. Even I had a couple of beer, which is totally out of character for me, but after the day I had had yesterday, I owed it to myself and who was I to be the only stick in the mud at the party. Jason and Jon got pics and I think Sorrel did too. Fluffy with a beer, not something that happens often. And on the rare occasion when it does it's Guiness. I can now no longer say, "I have never drunk a Bud light!" The cheap date I am, 2 beers gave me quite a nice buzz and everyone was getting anxious for doors. Everyone except me and Laura for some reason. We were joking about why everyone was getting so anxious to return to the cold to stand in line to get in. We were pretty happy waiting it out in the warm hotel room with the TV. HEHE Anyway, more excited heads prevailed and we headed out to get in line. Keep in mind I have still not heard from Mason and he was supposed to meet us at the hotel room before the show. So as we walked back to the venue I kept calling him. Remember we are in the Mt's and cell phone reception is BAD at best. I had Sorrel memorize the first part of Masons # and Laura memorize the second part because my damn cell phone was on ROAM and I could use my phone book to dial. We looked pretty silly as I would wait for the tone and then ask Sorrel for the first part and then Laura for the second part. I got thru a number of TIMes but kept getting his voicemail. Not good, if I want to get my ticket. Finally we get inside and give Mason one more try and success, he is already inside and has my ticket. We adjorn to the bathrooms(all of us, because of the beer I am guessing)and agree to meet back in the concourse. Steve and I come out of the mens bathroom(this TIMe) and the girls are in line to buy beer. One problem, they don't sell beer at this venue. Right as we discover this little inconvenience, we hear the crowd roar and everyone runs for their seats as Mason appears, seemingly out of nowhere, gives me a hug and a ticket. I locate my seat and try to enjoy the show. I now know how all those DMB fans feel when they come to a TR show. I was sitting there laughing to myself realizing I am probably the only person in the entire arena who doesn't know ANY of the songs. I am sitting there waiting for TR's first solo which will undoubtly be the first song I know. The difference for me is, I was not stupid enuf to show up at a Dave show EXPECTING to hear TR songs, BUT I did feel like the way DMB fans must feel sitting at a TR show waiting to hear a Dave song. HEHE "HMMMM, I don't know any of these songs, when is he gonna play something I know? STREEEAAAMMM!!!" I was laughing outloud thinking about this to myself. I know have a much better understanding of how a DMB fan must feel at a TR show. Kinda ironic in a way. Ohhh, I forgot to mention the girls sitting behind me. Overall the crowds both nites I was at the shows were by and large, quite respectful, BUT the girls behind me did not fit this description. First, they asked me to remove my hat when I sat in front of them. I obliged by slouching very low in my seat. They asked me again to please take off my hat, so I did and began to sit up as straight as I could. She continued thru the entire concert to yell at here friend "LOOOK AT DAVE'S FACE!!! OH MY GAWD!!!" over and over and over and over again. Needless to say I was quite annoyed but anyway, I preservered and finally made it to TR's first solo. It was awesome, I actually cried. I did, I am not lying. It was beautiful. It was his ingenious cover of Neil Young's Harvest(which I have heard him do many TIMes)but this TIMe he worked that into Neil Young's OHIO. It was amazing. TR said it was the first TIMe he had done it like that. I was quite impressed as was everyone else. I don't think anyone caught Harvest, as it is not EZ to catch the way TR does it unless you are a huge Neil fan, but when he started OHIO, everyone got it. After the first solo I could no longer take the girls anymore so I headed backstage and walked around, chatted and waited for solo #2. Everyone on the Dave crew was very nice and friendly and just a great bunch of people. TIMe finally came for solo #2 and I almost missed it. I was surprised it wasn't Kundalini, but it was quite impressive. After the show, back at the hotel, we all decided TR should have played them reversed as the 2nd seemed a little anti-climatic after the first solo TR song. Anyway, that's just my preference, but it was an amazing performance. Oh yes, and Dave was great as well. He told the funniest storys and some of them really weren't that funny by themselves, I think it is more the way he tells them. Anyway, TR had always told Rew and I how funny Dave was and it was finally nice to see what he meant. TR is definitely right about this. I also noticed Dave says this alot during the set:"My GOOD FRIEND, TIM REYNOLDS!" I joked with Mason and Jason at breakfast today that we should get recordings of all the solo shows and isolate all the TIMes Dave says that and make one CD of Dave repeating over and over "My GOOD FRIEND, TIM REYNOLDS!" and everyone TIMe someone asks why T&D hate each other we can send them the CD of Dave saying thousands of TIMEs "My GOOD FRIEND, TIM REYNOLDS!"
(new paragraph for PJK and Tericee)
Sorry, I digress, back to the story. So I wander about chatting and waiting for the show to end and I find myself sitting on a road case outside of T&D's dressing room chatting with Jenny, who works for DMB. At this point, the show ends and security brings T&D past me on my road case. I wait on my road case for the word that it is safe to enter the dressing room. You must remember how weird this feels for me as usually I can just stroll into TR's dressing room after a show, but this is also Dave's dressing room so I figure I should wait till TR gives me the word that it's clear or it' is now OK for me to enter. Much to my surprise Dave walks right up to me and puts out his hand to shake mine and says "I didn't get to shake it earlier." WOW!! I was quite taken aback by this gesture. Coming from anyone, that would be quite a noble gesture, to even remember that we had not shaken hands when introduced 8 hours ago. So we shook hands and Dave told TR it was OK if I wanted to come into the dressing room with them. Then Dave turned to me and said "Come on in Fluffy!". Well I must backtrack here, as you know I have never met Dave but everyone always said he was very nice and friendly but until you meet someone for yourself it is just hard to imagine just what everyone else is talking about. I must admit, I figured if I met Dave, it would be a quick, "Hey Dave, this is my road manager, Fluffy!" and we'd say HI and that was it, and he probably wouldn't even remember me after the initial meeting. I am a bit of a pessimist, but I must admit I was happily mistaken about Mr Matthews. He really is a great guy just like TR. Really down to earth and very funny. I see why they are such great friends. So we hung in the dressing room and discussed the show, and told funny stories and basically the 2 of them unwound after the gig. After about 40 mins, Ashley, Dave's wife came in and Dave introduced us. She is another wonderful individual. She took Dave away to meet some family who where there for the show and left TR and I alone. I finally got to tell TR about how I felt like a DMB fan at a TR concert at the show tonite and blah blah blah. Interesting side note, I seemed to notice, as I have become quite famaliar with TR's playing style over the years, that alot of what he played with Dave seemed to be improvised on the spot. That was the first thing I asked TR, and he confirmed it. He says I know the structure of the songs, and I play with Dave on alot of it, but alot of what he does with Dave on the Dave songs is improvised on the spot within the structure of the part he is playing along with. I was quite impressed. Both my TR(as always)and with my ability to pick that up after only one show. Anyway, back to the story. Do I need another paragraph? Awww, screw it(sorry PJK and Tericee) I have forgot to mention that in my many discussions with crew and staff over the course of the evening, it has been brought to my attention that they are expecting alot of snow this nite, high in the mts of Boone. At this point, Dave's lighting guy enters the room and we disuss how impressed I am with his lighting and how I want to steal some of it for future TR shows. The lighting guy wants to steal the kewl lamp in the dressing room(he doesn't though). Dave comes back and we all shoot the shit for a while until security comes to escort Dave to the bus. We say goodbye and Dave when he says goodbye to me is as humble as TR is when he signs and autograph. I felt like I have made a friend. Dave disappears and the three of us go back to our conversations and I during this TIMe Jenny is packing up supplies for the bus. She asks TR what he would like and I interject that TR will have a couple of the cokes as per usual. I am shocked to find that alot of TR's old habits have changed since his illness. Less coffee every day. Only one coke at the end of the show. Things I will have to get used to for the next TR TouR. DMB's security guy Jim comes back to escort TR out to the bus for the drive to Cincinatti. Jim and I have also chatted alot during the course of the evening and come to find out he is a big TR fan and is going to be joining us for the shows in CO in June if his schedule permits. Not as security, but as a fan. He wants to see a whole show by TR now that he has been teased so much night after night. So Jim and I walk TR to the bus and there is a small gathering of about 6 people waiting in the freezing rain for TR. TR signs and on the bus he goes with Jim. I will miss both of them. I wave goodbye and go to join up with everyone back at the hotel. Everyone is waiting and starving. Everyone opts for Wendy's at Laura's behest, except me, I am not hungry at the moment. So everyone puts in their order and off they go to get food. They return with their bounty and everyone eats and we all discuss the show, and our feelings about it and I tell them about what TR and Dave and I talked about after the show and a wonderful day comes to screeching halt as we are all faced with the sad realization that we have to part and make long drives in BAD weather. The wild bunch leaves just in TIMe to get outta dodge before the really bad weather comes. I hang with Jason & Jon after they leave and do a bunch of speed and crack(j/k)and we discuss their impending limo ride to the airport(see above)and I try to decide whether it would be smarter to start driving now and get down off the mt before it gets worse. I decide I am to tired and opt to take Mason up on his offer of place to crash before the drive tomorrow. I say goodbye to Jason and Jon who continue to do speed and crack(j/k) to keep themselves awake until their limo comes. I head out to see if I can locate Mason's hotel. When I called him I asked if they have eaten as now I am ravenous just having watched everyone eat but me. HEHE We decide to go out and get a bite when I get to their hotel. As I say goodbye to Jason and Jon, we notice exactly how bad it is getting weatherwise and just how icy the roads are. I trudge out into the frozen tundra. Let me tell you, it was bad!!! Slow going, icy, not a plow in site, and it was deep. I finally find Mason's hotel and I call up and tell them I have spotted a diner on my way to the hotel. They tell me they gave up and ordered pizza. I tell them to call back, cancel and get their butts down here. They try, they can't so I decide to go it alone. As I am leaving the parking lot, a girl dressed in pants, tank top, and sandals jumps in front of my Rav4. Remember, there is a blizzard going on. She is waving her arms frantically and of course I stop. She is crying, she tells me she was just in a hotel room and some guys were trying to kidnap her and take advantage of her. I tell her to get in my car, she is pretty shaken. She is crying, trying to tell me what happened etc etc etc. I ask if she wants to go to the police and she crys I just want to go home. I ask her where that is and tell her I will take her. Her name is Maggie and she has had a really BAD nite. Anyway, she tells me they didn't rape her, but they were trying to take advantage of her and when she wouldn't play along they kicked her out of the hotel room. I finally ascertained that her car was parked at her grandmothers house, but that she did not have the keys, they were back in the guys room. She said that their should be a spare set at her grandmothers house. Quick sidenote:She buried her grandmother that morning. BAD DAY!! She tells me it isn't far to her grandmothers house, so I tell her I will be more than happy to drive her there. Now when I said this, little did I know it was all the way down the mt, in a snowstorm where you could barely see 20 feet in front of the car on tiny, curvy mt roads that I am not familiar with. We finally get to her grandmothers and noone is there. Luckily her car is unlocked, but no spare key. She trys starting it with a screwdriver, but no luck. She grabs her cell phone and calls her brother to ask where the spare key is. The spare key is in Charlotte NC with her brother. "Now what do we do?" I ask. She says she could walk to her mothers house. Like I am going to let her walk with no jacket, in sandals in a snow storm. Of course her mothers house is in the same direction we have already traveled, further away from the hotel. Alot further! And the snow is only getting worse. I cannot even see the roads anymore. I just keep following the flat white surface. We are the only car that has traveled on these windy roads. We keep making turns and I am wondering how the hell I am ever going to find my way back after I drop her off. We finally get to her mothers house and I tell her goodbye and watch her climb thru the window of her mothers house. Luckily I am pretty good at finding my way back even thought it is an area I am totally unfamaliar with and I can't see anything but SNOW!! I left the hotel to get something to eat at 2am when I ran into her, I returned to the hotel at 6am. No kidding, 6am. I call Mason and ask the room number and he is like where the hell have you been? I tell him the story in great detail and realize I never did eat, but if I don't get to bed, I will have to drive home alone tomorrow on very little sleep. HMMMMMM sound famaliar. I was really hoping to get some sleep before I had to drive back since I didn't get any the nite before staying with Lisa until the crack of dawn. Anyway, I am shown to my bed, Mason and I quietly chat for awhile and he tells me there is yet another message board person sleeping in the room who I have not seen all day(they just keep popping up out of the woodwork). Morning comes and I start to pack my car and the mysterious message board person leaves by the front door of the hotel before I can even say a proper hello or goodbye. I hope you had a safe trip back to Jersy. I will see you again soon and thanx for the use of your gas mask. HEHE Mason and Jason and I opt for breakfast at the Diner. WE have a wonderful meal and Mason give the waitress shit as always(in a nice way). Ohhh, I forgot to mention, as we were walking in, guess who we saw. The damn girls who were sitting behind me. They were walking out as we were waking in. I never saw the girls who were talking to me at the show but, but when she saw me, she said to her friend, "It's the guy with the HAT!!" What are the chances, I ask you? We eat and I find out that Mason has to drive Jason to the airport all the way back in Greensboro. Ugghhh, whatta drag. Had I known sooner, we could have sent Jason with Jason(therippa) and Jon in their limo. Anyway, we said our goodbyes and heading out into the tundra. I had the most beatiful drive thru the Appalacians, I looked like I was the first car thru there after the snow and it was beautiful, but I had to go slow, slow, slow. Mt roads are very scenic, but very treacherous after snow. It was Mt roads all the way to 81. I had a panic attack as soon as I hit I-81. I was so happy to finally be off tiny, winding, mt roads and hit a superhighway where I could open her up and boom, as soon as I got on 81 traffic was dead stopped. I am not kidding you. After my trip down, I thought I was gonna lose it. Luckily it was only like that for about 1/2 and hour and then after that it was smooth sailing, even given the fact that it snowed the whole trip. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

and this one definitely follows the pattern.

Hey CPPJames, it was great seeing you as well, wish we could have hung out more. Where did you and your friends get too?

Fluffy you and your stories never ever cease to amaze me. Thanks for that one and it's great in all it's details.

Great to hear that Dave is as down to Earth as Tim. I've heard stories before, but I'll definitely put a little more faith into it after hearing it come from you. Hope to meet you during the summer tour if you make it out to the west coast!

again, if I had known youd be at boone i wouldve definatly come to say hi. What a shame i missed all you guys. Oh well, wont be the only time i get to see you.

by the way, you worked ANI?? i cant begine to tell you how jealous i am of that . we listened to Ani all the way down to Boone on friday. I was recently thinking Tim solo would be a fucking AMAZING opener for ani, though a double bill / festival thing would be the preferance of course

Fluffy, I'm not sure how to respond to that except by telling you that it is 3:00am and I I just spent the last 15 minutues or so reading that and I had a huge smile on my face the whole way through... you mentioned how Dave is a funny storyteller... well you SIR, are a great storyteller as well, and I could hear you voice and picture you telling that whole story. Thanks for sharing, and hope to see you soon.

The friends I went with were parking the car when I ran into you guys...I was supposed to just jet to will call and head back, but that didn't work out too well. I felt like an ass cause they were sitting there waiting for me, but oh well...they've done worse to me =). While I was waiting for the tickets, they called me and asked me where the hell I was, so I felt obliged to jet off.

Damn shame I couldn't hang out more...I was kicking myself. In any event, it was nice to have a 3D message board for a few minutes =). My other friends couldn't go because the one that was supposed to drive got into a car accident and didn't want to chance driving. No dedication, I tell ya.

Sorry I missed you all... would have loved to stay after but we weren't dressed for that kind of weather and needed to get going. It would have been nice to meet some new faces, but not at the expense of getting pneumonia!

Did anyone end up meeting up with Jason (enthutimsiast)? I spoke with him before the show and we were going to try and meet up at the venue, but I never heard back from him.

Fluffy... hindsight is a bitch, but we were at the Winston-Salem show too and were debating between going to Ziggy's or just going back to the room. We figured Ziggy's would be a madhouse and decided to just stop at a gas station for some beverages and headed back to the room to chill. Oh well. Wish I would have known that you were going to be around at the shows... certainly would have liked to at least say hello.

I hope he made it back to MS allright. I should have gotten your number and some others' before the show as well, would have been nice to meet everyone in person... I figured I'd run into everyone after the show but we bolted because of the weather.

There's always next time...

So here's my long Fluffy-style write-up of the weekend.

So Jon (my roomate and new member j-o-n) stay up all night so we can catch our flight out from San Francisco at 7:00 AM. This means leaving for the airport around 4. We get on the plane and promptly fall asleep. Blah blah blah. We arrive at tri-cities airport in Blountville, TN, and realize that this place must have just stopped sending out the bi-planes and the autogyros a few years ago. Remember that limo I said I got for $80? It ended up being a beat-up old-school Ford Crown Vic with an old recovering alcoholic named Lester driving. We were entertained on our trip through the mountains with stories that I reckon took place in them-thar hills. It was a beautiful drive from the airport to Boone, and we managed to have enough in common with ol' Lester to carrying on a good conversation the whole way over. We arrived at Boone about two hours later and checked into our hotel. We stayed at the Scottish Inn, which was two blocks from the Holmes Center. Sweet! We unpacked, showered, and went out looking for a place to eat. Just down the block was a Lone Star steakhouse, so we went there to grab some meat and beer. When we got in they locals couldn't believe we flew all the way from SF to see Tim and Dave. The gentleman sitting next to me at the bar told us he'd been to San Fracisco once...when he worked for UPS and had to drop something off at their delivery center there (he's an experienced traveler ) So we asked the bartender where we should go to drink/party while we're in town. She started drawing us a map when a man down at the other end named Marty offered to drive us around. He was a nice guy, a little on the weird side, and was the spitting image (in looks and twang of voice) of Jimmy James from Newsradio. So we hopped into his truck and he took us to Blowing Rock (the next town over) where it's legal to sell liquor. We went to a bar called Twigs, which was a really nice place and a surprise to see out in high country. I talked to Marty and another local for a bit while Jon was brushing off the advances of this 50-year-old lady Marty later informed us was the town slut. After that we headed over to a bar called The Caynon where we had some more drinks. Do you guys realize that alcohol, gas, and cigarettes are 1/2 what they cost in California out there? We didn't stay at the Caynon long before we took of to another bar called "The Spot". This place was weird. It was very big and very dark, there wasn't many people there yet, and they had a mechanical bull. We shot pool for a bit, said goodbye to Marty, and left with another group of locals. We had to leave in a hurry though, because one of the girls just got into a fistfight with another girl in the bathroom! The guy, who was named Tim as well, took us to a place across the street from the center called The Klondike Bar. Cool place, good crowd, but it seems a lot of the guys in this town are meatheads. We partied there for a few hours and Jon and I said our goodbyes and walked back to the hotel. The next morning we woke up and headed over to the center. The tour buses were there, along with a small crowd that would grow much larger as the day passed. Jon and I did our best to burn TIMe before the concert, going back and forth to the center and the hotel and stopping by Lone Star for beers. We got to the center about two hours before the start to mingle with the crowd and hope we could catch a glimpse of Tim or Dave. We were staing by the buses when Dave ducked into the side of it...the crowd went wild and were all waiting anxiously for him to come back out. Someone said "I see someone coming in the mirror!", the door opened, and out came a little boy. The crowd was silent, hoping it was Dave, so I took the opportunity for a public laugh and screamed "OH MY GOD!!!" ... everyone got a kick out of it. Then Jon says, "hey, isn't that Fluffy?", I looked over, and sure enough it was...I didn't expect him to be there. We went over and said hi and talked for a little bit, then CPPJames and Miss Sorrel her friends Laura, Meg, and Steve showed up. We all talked for a bit and Miss Sorrel and crew were going to drink beers in the parking lot. I said that my hotel was only about two blocks away and everyone was welcome to go there to drink where it's warm. We started heading over to the hotel, and made it there thanks to Fluffy's let's-just-start-walking-and-they-will-follow technique. We got to the hotel room after buying more beer and started drinking. We headed over at about 7:10, all of us nice and toasty and stood in line...even Fluffy. I told him he was a pretty good sport for doing that, considering he had a backstage pass (we forgot to beat him up and take it ). We got into the center and the show started.

It was fantastic! Of all things they played Bluewater, which has only been played about 10 TIMes and hasn't been played by T&D since 1997. Tim's first solo rocked. He got a standing ovation. There was nothing better than seeing the faces of people when after playing Ohio for a bit he just "tickled" the string, hit the delay pedal, and starting flying over it. Truly unbelievable, one of the best Tim solos I've ever heard. The show was great, those guys played for almost 4 hours. Highlights for me were the mellow Don't Drink the Water, the crazy intro to Satellite, Tim's solos (of course), the new song Stay of Leave, Bluewater, Dave's stories (he was VERY talkative tonight), and Gravedigger. The sound quality of the arena was excellent, Tim and Dave played very well, and Dave's voice was right on. They did such a good job they gave each other a hug at the end. The crowd wasn't too bad, they started calming down around the 5th song and being quite, but they would still scream whenever Tim started playing hard or Dave hit a high note. Good thing was the sound guys slowly turned up Tim's guitar so you could hear what he was doing...this was a complaint about the previous shows, people could barely hear Tim. I can't wait to get the recording of this show...someone put up a copy of Bluewater today, and the quality is the best I've seen in a long TIMe, like soundboard quality.

After the show, everyone returned to the hotel room. We were all worn out afterwards, so we just chilled and talked about the show, the setlist, Tim, Dave, etc. Fluffy had some good stories for us. Miss Sorrel and company took off for Florida a little later, then Fluffy took off for Mase's hotel. We said our goodbyes and sent them on their way.

This weekend was incredible. With the hospitality of the locals driving us around, the people from the board I met, the gift Fluffy gave me, the quality of the show, and the price of the beer, this will be a hard trip to duplicate, and definitely one I'll never forget.

Below is a copy of my very first post from another thread:

Hey guys/ladies!

The Boone show rocked the house. That was, quite possibly, the best weekend I've ever had. I got to see two shows (WS being the 1st) and got to meet and hang out with some extremely cool people (e.g. you all). Sorell, i happened to stumble upon this thread and was lucky to find it; primarily because I wanted to thank Jon and Jason for taking all of us into their warm hotel room. It was cold as balls outside. J & J and Fluffy, I personally thank the two of you so very much for your extended generosity, and I hope we all may cross paths again in the future.

I'm now a member of this forum and hope to keep in touch with all of you.

And a Special Thanks to Fluffy, it was a great pleasure to meet and hang out with you...and of course please tell Timmy 'thank you' from all of us. He's a gifted musician to say the least...

Regards,
Steve.

-------------

That was my first post, so here's my second.

The weekend was a blast until the drive home...forgot to mention that. Nonetheless the trip was worth it.

I feel like i have so many people to thank. Jon, Jason, Fluffy, Sorrell, Lauren, Meghan, Dave Matthews, and of course, Tim Reynolds. All these people combined make one hell of a party. We must cross paths again in the future, last weekend was too precious.

I just slept for 16 hours, from about 3:30 until 7:30 AM Monday Easter time. I was damn near late for work (yep, i did a few hours at work. Don't ask me why.)

Sorell, thanks for your faith in me driving down the great mountain side in the falling sleet in mild fear of hitting anything from the sudden tree or rock wall to a crossing deer or moose, J&J thanks for the extended generosity, Fluffy thanks for your help getting out of boone (among other things), and the rest THANKS FOR HELPING TO MAKE THIS ROAD TRIP ONE FOR THE BOOKS!

The party never ends, folks. Keep the faith.

I think i'll sleep for another 13 hours after work today.

Greetings from Jacksonville, FL,
Steve.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thanks for the new paragraph Fluffy!!!!! HAHAHAHA You are toooo much! Seriously this has been a killer to read! I popped a blood vessel in my eye today from straining because I was stupid and forgot my glasses for work! Suffice to say your paragraph was a bit hard to take, but oh so worth it! Thanks Fluffy!

I do so wish I had been there to see all of you!

I see therippa had an equally long and enjoyable story, but he used paragraphs. I bet that made Tericee and PJK happy. It certainly was a good TIMe and I think a great TIMe was had by all!!

Hey Fluffy, don't feel too bad, yes Therippa used some paragraphs but a smiley face does not a paragraph make....hehehe

Like I said before Fluffy with no paragraphs is better than no Fluffy at all! And I'll stick to that! hehe

I'm so bummed I missed on out the whole board gathering...sounds like everybody had a blast...anyway now that it's a week later and I have sufficently recovered from a short bout of sleep deprivation, let me fill in one gap in Fluffy's story...I was the mysterious message board person sleeping when Fluffy got back to the hotel...I think I was so worried about the weather and driving home and having slept like 7 hours in two days and driving from nj to nc that I neglected to reveal my identity...woops! Fortunately, I got to share a brief moment with Fluffy watching an E! special on one of the world's most delusional nut-cases...John Travolta.

Spacemonkey, you are bummed????? So am I!!!! I had no idea people from here (NJ/PA) were driving to Boone! Damnit, I have a new minivan and I would have gladly driven down to see that concert if I had known others were going. Later I found out Jesse (Bugman, also from NJ) was there too!

I know Jason (enthuTIMsiast) was bummed because he didn't know everyone was there and the one person (Silky) he knew was there he never got to meet up with!

Glad you got to meet up with Fluffy even if it was only to watch the E special on John Travolta, hehe Funny thing is I saw that same special last weekend too!
