Despite what it may seem, timmy is not my favourite guitarest. Its actualy David Gilmour of the now hybornating Pink Floyd.
I was wondering, since all of us are into the deep experimental sounds of tims one man aural borage/colage, are there more people like me that are very deep into pink floyd, especialy the experimental 60's sounds of Saucerful of Secrets and Interstellar Overdrive?
Floyd is my fave band, no doubt in my mind, even their new stuff like the Devision Bell is a masterpiece in its own right, although this is definatly Pink Floyd 3 so to speak, now that its post-Waters.

Pink Floyd is good, no doubt, but I guess I'm not really a "fan." I do have some of their stuff (the wall, etc), but I never really listen to them. I really see it like this. People tend to like one of the two best bands from an era, and while it might not be true to say that PF and Led Zeppelin were in the same "era," I like LZ better than PF. But I have some really messed up logic (as you might be able to tell), so make sense of that if you can. I'm not trying to start a PF/ LZ war or anything, just saying that between the two, I like LZ better, and I associate the two.
I better say no more.

No, i have complete understanding about what you meant. from the classic rock era, if you as me to relate to either PF ir LZ i would take floyd in a second, but there are others who wouldnt hessitate to say Zep.
I mean, im a huge classic rock nut, but you wont hear me cranking up the Eagles, or Skynyrd, or Steve Miller, just cause their not my bag. But i tell that to my friend J and he'll piss all over me, hehe. Im more towards Floyd, and for that matter many of the bluesier, soulful classic rockers of the 60-70s.

Everytime I hear a Floyd song on the radio or if a friend of mine plays one of their CDs, I think, I really like this. I tell myself I need to get into them and then I forget until I hear them again. What CD do you suggest a newbie interested in Pink Floyd buy, Erich? I tend to lean towards the Roger Waters songs.
Do you ever listen to Fleetwood Mac? I think Lindsey Buckingham is a kickass guitarist. I used to run a fan site about him.

Lindsey Buckingham is a kickass guitarist. I love watching him play songs like Big Love from The Dance video. He's definately up there as a very good guitarist.

I dont mean to butt into Erich's territory, but EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING should own Dark Side Of the Moon. Other than that (if you like the Dark Side stuff, some people prefer the Wall type stuff, which its my style, although i think the movie kicks ass), you should check out Wish You Were Here for sure, and Animals. I also have Pulse which is a cool live cd, but Dark Side and Wish You Were Here are two must haves, good all around.

Lindsey Buckingham... now we are talking!!!! My parents loved Fleetwood so I grew up on their music. He does some great stuff on the dance, but I really his solo cd, from the cradle. The solo on "This is the time" shreds! I also like how he plays a wide variety of guitars and even banjos.
PS Fleetwood (minus the keyboardist) is recording/writing a new album in LA right now!

Wow, I can't believe you guys like Lindsey. I used to run a huge fan site. I have tons of rare video clips of him. I have video clips of him performing the songs from Out of the Cradle acoustically in his personal studio and a lot of other stuff from his solo tour. Did you know he is back with Fleetwood Mac? They have a new album coming out and are going to tour pretty soon. He did Behind the Music for VH1 in April, but it has yet to air. This rocks ass.

Just gotta set you guys strait! Lindsay is great, but the real hidden talent of Fleetwood Mac is Peter Green. He was the originally guitarist who lost his mind. He has since come out of reclusion and is still as amazing as ever. Check out the early Fleetwood Mac(ie: Green Manalishi with a 2 Prong Crown as covered and made famous by Judas Priest and if I am not mistaken Peter also has the original version of Black Magic Woman.) He was truly on his way to greatness when he went crazy(from LSD use I think). Check him out. Blues doesn't get any better. He even put out a number of solo LPs that are worthwhile. 1 especially but I can't remember the name. Sorry. Investigate, you will not be let down!

Hey, I like the Peter Green era too. I have some of the original albums with Green. Albatross is a realy cool song. I have a documentary where Mick talks about Peter tripping out. He says he took some LSD with some Russians or Germans (can't remember which) and that he was never the same after. (That must have been some potent shit) Peter Green is not a nutcase anymore and is touring again. I also like Fleetwod Mac's work when Bob Welch was with them.

Floyd rocks and I would highly recommend getting a copy of the book "Another Brick In The Wall" which gives info on every song from every album, including the soundtracks. You also get a good idea of all the interpersonal relationships going on in the band...quite a story to say the least.
I also own From the Cradle...awesome disc...the whole album sounds like a Mac album with Lindsey doing all the vocals...not that there's anything wrong with that! I don't know what you guys think, but it seems that his sound IS the latter-day Mac sound...like he's the creative force in the band. This is just an observation--Xar666, what are your thoughts on that? I don't know a whole lot about Lindsey.

Ok this is Pink Floyd related. I have heard a little about The Dark Side Of the Moon having something peculiar in common with Wizard of Oz. Is that true. Basically what I heard was that if you started Dark Side in a particular point in Oz, then you could just let it play and it would match up with particular parts of the movie. Example, Dorothy looks up in the sky for some reason or another, and at that point in Wall helicopters sounds are going in the song.
First, is that in any way true? And secondly, if first is true, then when do you start the movie and album to make it coincide? I would love to hear that.
Any info, please?

Will: Actually, I thought Lindsey's third solo album, "Out of the Cradle", did not sound like Fleetwood Mac. Some of the songs may have sounded a bit like “Tango In The Night" because they were written at the time of that album. But I think it was very original. I like the album a lot. It showcased Lindsey's acoustic playing more than ever. However, I felt it had a bit too much of the eighties synth sound to it. I have clips of Lindsey playing those songs with just an acoustic guitar in his studio and they are really good.
He has stated that his new album is his best music yet. It was supposed to be released in 1998. I think he is going to merge it with the new Fleetwood Mac album coming out. The song "Bleed to Love Her" on the dance was from that album.
Kevin: My site was too costly for me to keep up. I had about 12 Gigs of media on the hosting server and they wanted to charge me a lot of cash to host it. I do still have the files. I can put them up on FTP if any of you want to see them.
Sorry Erich, we seem to have sabotaged your thread. I am planning to buy some Pink Floyd albums, any suggestions?
P.S. Tim Reynolds Rules.

It is absolutely true. I can't remember when exactly you start it as I watched a tape where the actual sound was taken out and Dark Side was put on but it was perfect. Crazy stuff. -J

Its definitely Dark Side of the Moon and OZ. You start the cd at the THRID LION ROAR durring the MGM logo. The coincidence is amazing, I have heard that Floyd said it is just a coincidence and the cd was not made to follow the movie. I believe them, but even some of the lyrics match what is happening in the movie. The parallels are obvious, I suggest that everyone check it out, its worth it.

absolutely.
pink floyd was the first band that really introduced me to good music. gilmour's playing has always been unstoppable in my mind. i dont dig the earlier psychadelic stuff (piper, saucer) as much as i do the later works... wish you were here, meddle, animals, dark side, division bell, and even final cut -- it's all great stuff.
i actually have a bootleg called "meddler" from BBC radio, and its got a pretty phenominal version of "echoes" on it... ill probably offer it up for a b&p if anyone's interested.

Pink Floyd + Dark Side of the Moon + the Wizard of Oz
I have watched and listened to these together probably 20 times and the synchronicity is uncanny. I was so happy when CDs came out and you could just put the CD on repeat and you didn't have to turn the record over any more. It made it alot easier. I have picked out 1000s of things that that synch up in that movie. From lyrics to actions to tones and scenes. It is hard to believe it is just a coicidence. But it has to be how else could you do it. It would be impossible. The timing of everything would just make it impossible. It is so truly kewl though.

Does anybody know how that whole Dark Side/Oz thing got started? Was it solely a word of mouth thing or is there some definite origin? Just curious.

What I want to know is who was listening to PF and watching Oz at the same time? Who has those diverse tastes to discover something like that?
No one, exactly. So someone in the band probably dropped a hint to someone they trust, who checked it out and then just started telling whoever he trusted, and by now we all know.
So I think that there's no way that it's just coincidence. But maybe, who knows? Anyway, I'm hoping to get a Dark Side album so I can see the matches myself, sometime or another. I'm just bursting with curiosity.

I bet the whole PF,Wiz of Oz thing was just some guy tripping balls watching a kewl movie and listening to a great album and the rest is history. Part of our oral tradition. Passed on from generation to generation. Believe it or not there are a # of websites out there devoted to this subject. Just search on PF and Wiz of Oz and I think you will be surprised. ENJOY!!!

Hey Erich, I think "Hypnotized" is actually Bob Welch who is also an amazing guitar player. Peter was much earlier than that song. Unless Peter did a version of it earlier which I don't think is possible, since to my recollection, Bob Welch wrote or cowrote the song. All this is from memory since I am not at home to consult my LP collection. To the best of my knowledge the info I have supplied is correct. Hope this helps.
